Classic scam! When you want to buy you need to pay 4/5 or full price upfront and hurry up as there are hundreds more who want to buy but you are the one who gets to buy it!

I spent sub £4k buying a 2.7, ploughed a further £6k into it over 18 months getting it up to scratch and then it got written off in the Peak District.
What?

This looks nice but whats with the efficient grip tyres - I thought they're for eco-friendly city cars?

Otherwise I'm quite tempted just for the colour combo and spec.

Toyota probably fitted them all round as well, not just on one rear corner, and what's with being up the tree in the photo? hehe

Mine is a 55 plated V8S. Had pipes and screenshot done. Had it 15 months now. Averaged just over 19MPG in that time. I run Comma Motorsport 5W/50 which hopefully protect the engine. Mine is now on 102k.
19 MPG sounds pretty encouraging, I’ve heard the S and the Turbo get very similar fuel economy with normal use, but the Turbo gets quite bad if you thrash it.
Would that oil be a good bet in mine too?, I’ve heard they use a bit and was going to go with the original Mobil 1, but if there are better alternatives I’m open to using them.

I have absolutely no interest in doing that.

I'll happily spend money on something which is an investment but I couldn't be putting that amount of money into a Boxster which isn't going to pay me back.
No standard 986 or 996 is an "investment", well not a good one anyway.

I spent the purchase price again on my 996 over 5 years. And thats only parts, I did the spannering. But I did buy it at the right price knowing it had issues.

You could maybe buy one, not drive it, keep it dry for 20 years and then you might see a return... probably better off with the stock market though.

I think it comes down to what you buy and when. Some you win, some you lose but I like to at least set out with a chance of a win.

possibly - looks like it is sitting quite low?

Boxster S is still a cracking buy if you can find a good one. I sold mine 2 years ago for ~5k so prices haven't moved much since.

Thankfully no. No one else involved, I didn't even get a scratch. Which is a miracle, when you see what state the car ended up in. I'll start a new thread in Reader's Cars once I have a replacement with the story.

I'm not sure if they've started creeping up? It is prime drop top selling time though. There are also a lot of basket cases out there.

Do you mean “grim” as in appearance? Or is there something else about it you don’t like? Just interested as I’m looking at present.
'loads of receipts' - I can see quote a few of those are old MOT's.. That's hardly service history! I'd check the MOT history..

It s a stay clear from me

Also, what are people's thoughts on this:

https://www.gumtree.com/p/porsche/porsche-boxster-...

Have spoken to the owner who will be taking it back from the dealer. Is looking for around £5k.

A little leggy, but maybe there is room for haggling.

Original colour (paint to sample) but has had a pukka respray recently.

Only two previous owners and a stack of bills.

Worth pursuing if it can be had for something starting with a 4? Going to quiz the owner in detail tonight. 150k is a lot of miles considering the price imo.

The bought cheap and run on a shoe string by previous owners bangernomics style are the ones you want to avoid buying generally unless the price is very cheap.

That's the one. The guy's on the Porsche Owners UK FB page. I approached him through there and got his number.
