Hi guys,
I am looking at taking my first step into Porsche ownership...I have viewed the below car and am almost ready to buy. What is everyone’s thoughts? I know it is toppuy but the car is immaculate in the flesh and the clutch, RMS and a few other bits were all done in the past 25k.
I am also a sucker for the red leather dash etc.

Don’t obsess over price. Buy on condition and check obvious consumables like tyres and brakes for quality and wear. Looks decent from the ad but IRL is obviously v different. Please do some reading. Go on boxa.net Read the long term owner member rides it running reports. The car advertised looks very tidy on the surface but the real money is underneath. Get a feeling for what goes wrong when and how much it costs.
Thanks but it is comments like this that scare me. I am fairly well versed and don’t expect it to be cheap to run, my only real concern is the IMS but I don’t know if that is hyperbole or not? My point is that car photographs really well and looks enticing and shiny. But ultimately it's still a 80k plus 15+year old Boxster so all the common wear items apply. Having had 2 Boxsters over the past 6.5 years the really good ones are rare to find. I don't mean to scare it out people off but it's unlikely to be a car you just buy and drive for 2 years doing an oil change then selling on. If you are enthusiast oriented and want good to excellent rather than perfection then you will still likely spend £1-2k per year for the first 2 years.

I appreciate that, it is something I have factored in. It has A file of work carried out etc but I imagine it won’t be cheap!Expenditure in my ownership over 18 months.

Good info. Trying to quickly skim through (bit of an eye test on a phone screen)
About £1.5k of that looks like tyres, MOT, brakes and routine service which you'd get on any car.
These seem like normal Boxster/996 type bills (Just a question of whether they occur in your tenure):
Circa £1k suspension
Circa £1k clutch/DMF
Circa £500 air con condensors/pipes/gas.
Are those ball park figures about right? I guess these are the invoices that need to be looked for when buying, along with an understanding of life expectancy of each (trickier given their variance with use but typical durations can be gleaned from these threads I guess).

Ferris, formatting is lost when posting on PH, unfortunately. Much easier to read on Boxa.net.
I'd say
Clutch + flywheel = 1k
Suspension arms all round = 1.5k
Air con if not working = 150 - 700 depending on what's wrong
If I still had it and it and we were in 2019, I'd also have considered dampers all round at circa 600 plus fitting.

986 is probably the most expensive hobby anyone can have in the longer term! As I mentioned on boxa, you were very lucky to escape that accident though. I was probably a bit luckier (or not?) in the 6 years of ownership, got away with a 5k worth of partial engine rebuild and slight mods, nothing else.?

Looking at a big picture, a TVR Tuscan with a new engine, might be a more special drive/toy around 20-25k

Thanks for the helpful information guys.
The car had clutch flywheel etc done 25k ago and a few switches etc. Not entirely sure on the other parts to be honest but will look again.
Service not and brakes were done in the past few weeks.
Thanks
TBH, I'd say that's overpriced by a good £700 or so.The car had clutch flywheel etc done 25k ago and a few switches etc. Not entirely sure on the other parts to be honest but will look again.

Just because there are cars out there advertised at, shall we say optimistic, prices, doesn't mean they're selling.
Also, you'd ideally want to check the alignment. It may not need suspension arms per se (but would be beneficial at those miles, if they've not been done), but the eccentric bolts on the rear axle can seize up causing all sorts of bother.

Fair enough, it looks lovely but there are some unknowns with it. I will dwell over the weekend and bite the bullet either way.Just because there are cars out there advertised at, shall we say optimistic, prices, doesn't mean they're selling.
