I agree, and at this end of the market you don't need to care what anyone else thinks when you come to sell on.

Help a fellow petrol head out - I think I want to try a 911 as my daily.

500 miles a week (but will be well looked after, point being mileage isn't really a consideration), and budget of £20k.

So it's going to be a 996 - but which variant? Best places to find a decent car?

I think 500 miles per week is asking for trouble in a 20 year old Porsche.

I'm happy to pay much less!

Hence asking for suggestions - do I go for a 13-14k early c2 (or C4 which I'm only looking at thanks to PPBB), have a few k set aside for any potential issues, enjoy?

Or spend at the purchase point, and go for a fully sorted rebuilt engine - perhaps in a later variant with a little more power?

As for 500 miles a week - it's a GT! Compared to my current 98 MX5 (which I've put 40k on, involving a blown head gasket, full forged engine rebuild, bespoke valved dampers, full suspension refresh (at similar to Porsche prices for the materials used), etc. etc.) it should be a doddle - I'll not have to worry about the chassis dissolving around me!

It'll get fluids every 6 months, and more than happy to take it off the road for a couple of weeks a year for a deeper refresh. I'd be shocked if it fell apart around me, or cost a ridiculous amount to keep decent (especially seeing as it'll be one of the leggier ones at the end of my ownership, so less fussed about keeping OPC stamps in the book).

How can you tell if a 987 has extended leather? I’m used to the seam on the door on a 986 but not sure what to look for on a 987.

Thanks again moose. My hunt for a 986 2.5 seems to be changing to a 987 3.2!

On Monday I am going to see a Silver 2009 2.7 manual, black leather

Only the one previous owner but does have 126k on it but with history.

I am contemplating it for an upcoming car auction but could be available for sale at 8.5k if a Pistonheader is interested, PM me If so.

Looking forward to enjoying the sun in the 986 with the roof off this weekend smile

My poverty porker had 1st MOT with me yesterday. I was slightly nervous with the custom Janspeed exhaust....

Drumroll...passed with no advisories. Not bad for an 18 year old car.

Compared to the brown interior 987, this 2000 986 seems a bit pricey. But looks v nice and original, plus IMS bearing sorted.

Opinions?

Since moose went from a 986 to a 987 he has been dragging everyone else along with him. That 987 above does look nice but lets not forget the 986 is the original boxster and is still a great great car.

Early c2 with over 100k under its belt. You’ll have 5 or 6k to spare for if it needs money spending on it.

I’ve got a 00 c2 with 156k on it and I can happily jump in and run it to the office 3 hours away. I don’t daily it but could.

At least this way you’ve not blown all the cash so have a fighting fund, and it’s not going to lose more money with your 500 miles a week.

I’ve had mine just over 2 years and I’m half tempted to move it on. I bought it from a PH’er doing 400 a week in it. PM me if you think it might be for you, it’s not perfect but it sounds right up your street!

It has PSE and has had the Clutch, RMS and IMSB done recently, I would say that is a par price if the rest of the car is up to scratch (suspension, air con, etc).

I was back in central Scotland at the weekend and happened upon this 986 S just a few miles away from my parent's place.

I walked away thinking it required a full respray, service and new tyres at the least. Spending upwards of £3k on top of the purchase price didn't seem worth the effort to get it up to the sort of standard of already sorted, better spec'd £5-6k cars currently on the market. However I've just seen he's dropped the price to £2750, so he might accept £2.5k now. At that price, taking a different approach, you could save around £2k on a respray by replacing the wings and bumper from scrapper and spend a day working on it with some heavy grade polish. Self-service it, fit some decent tyres and you've got a slightly sheddy summer runaround for just north of £3k. Could be a nice wee project for someone. I'd give him a call myself but I'm back up north with no free time to get back down in the next few weeks frown

Thanks, that's the sort of input I've been hoping for.

I'm a couple of months away from being able to make the purchase - spoke to a local specialist at the weekend, aim is to head over in the next couple of weeks just to try a couple of variants. 996 early c2/C4, and 997.1 c2.

Once I've done that, I'll give you a shout to see if yours is still available.

Cheers!

Reduced even further now at £2500, seems like an absolute bargain to me. Personally I'm not fussed about cosmetic condition so that'd be perfect for me as long as those awful stickers came off. Bet it won't hang around now.

Yeah, the stickers would be first thing to go, swiftly followed by the additional "Boxster S" badges!

The seller leaves for his holiday home this weekend for the rest of the year, so he'll be more likely to accept an offer now too. If only he'd been willing to accept one on Saturday.

Thanks. As mentioned, looks v original. I also note the Porsche sports exhaust. Much better sounding than standard?
