Very few traders will touch them.

Try a WeBuyAnyCar valuation, for sts and giggles. Last time I checked it was £50 (fifty).

WBAC paid my mate good money for his 996 cab last summer, they offered me slightly more than I was offered in px, I never got rid of it in the end.

I'm watching the market closely. I had thought that 996 cab/tip/targa/savannah horrors were falling but manual coupe holding up, but of the last few weeks I'm not so sure.

People can ask what they like, but actual sales prices are less visible, I see a lot of cars getting listed repeatedly.

I wonder what the part ex looks like for those cars that end up going through BCA and onto 'no reserve cars Reading' on ebay, presumably the fictious part ex is built on the equally fictious sticker price. If someone offloading a 996 to trade just wanted to sell it I reckon they'd be bid right in the nuts.

It amazes me that traders will touch them.

Boxters - I'm not so sure, but good grief, that is one heck of a sportscar for the cost of a fortnight in Magaluf.

I recently traded my 996 to a dealer, (brought privately 2 years earlier, price was still up £500 on what I paid. If had sold privately likely could have got more still but didn't mind too much as had 2 years free motoring.

Are we sure the prices for 996 and 986 are on the up? I think they are going the other way recently.
Yup, really the same or below. I do remember in 2012, had a test drive in 996 3.4 coupe manual. It was around 80k mile, 2-3 owners. It was quite exhausted, and felt a bit "meh" to be honest, and the price was around 11k. I went 986, half the price, maybe more fun and hooligan (nearly the same engine!)

Now the gen 2 boxster prices are mid 15k or even less, I really see no point with 996s, IMHO of course.

I have two kids seats in the back of my 3.4 996 coupe - kids have been in since 1 and 3 and are now 3 and 6, so one booster and one kids seat. Plenty of room for them and they love it

I Wbacced my 986 2 years ago.. Advertised for 5k, really not interest except two bearded air-cooled gentlemen, who could not drive theirs 993s anymore due to value, so wanted to have it for daily laugh. After 2 months of no serious buyers, I wbacced for 4.5k, I thought it was a fair deal. (2.7, around 70k and loads of upgraded items including engine)

My old 986 is up for sale here: click.
When I sold it there was an extensive list of jobs required, though nothing urgent. Just needed freshening up all round.
Loved the colour.

You can deactivate the passenger airbag with the following part from Porsche: 996-803-083-02

And here's the Pelican walk-through on how to do it: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Porsche-...
Another Porsche wallet emptying exercise.

€240 for what is effectively a switch and 4 resistors.

And then you have to pay OPC an hour to code it on the computer (which takes 10 minutes).

This is where it comes in handy to have a retired electronics engineer in the family. My dad made the switch for me and I then had it coded in. As you say, it is not complicated electronics...

Anyone know anything about this 996? Seems incredibly cheap, surely not just an effect of the interior colour...

I think that's Savannah leather and much disliked! I reckon that is where the market is.

That car was brought up on the “early 3.4” thread and this is what I said then:

“It was previously for sale in Bristol and the bloke was posting on the FB owners club for £12-13k. I got excited when I saw £7.5k but think its a scam. Knowing my luck I'm wrong and he just wants rid now!”

I don't know anything about it, other than it looks lovely. This one and Roca's car from a couple of pages back have really made me look differently at 996s. I have never liked the shape, but it really is getting better with age in my eyes.

The Savannah leather is unpopular so may well be having an effect on the price here. It's good for buyers, though, and at this level there can't be much more depreciation to go anyway.

I've got the slightly darker Sand Beige on my 987 and I actually really like it, even though I wouldn't have specc'd it myself. I'm not worried about resale as I'll probably never sell this one, but I'd definitely go for that colour interior again provided the appropriate discount was offered!

I don't think his ad is doing it any favours if I'm honest.
I think a car is always more desirable if the seller has taken a bit of care with the layout and look of the ad, this looks like it was done in a couple of minutes.

That Black/Beige 996 combo could be a great buy, exactly the kind of thing I would be interested in.

Note how that particular example has FULL Beige - carpets, wheel, handbrake/shifter, all the plastics etc. As is the way with Porsche, it is completely customisable when buying new.

This could easily be toned down by swapping out some of the Beige for Black, which is all cheaply available. I'd even be tempted to swap in a black carpet set, it makes a big difference and if done right looks really good.

Black/Beige is a good combo, where black/black would have been a bit dull.

Black paint, Boxster red/Terracotta Red interior would be my ideal choice!

Oi, I've got a Boxster with savannah. I like it, but the car is dark metallic green. Combination is fine IMHO. I do have a black steering wheel, centre console and door pockets. I agree ALL the same is bit over the top. Some colour combos are worse though, ever seen a Jade Green 911 with a nephrite green interior?

As far the black one above goes, MoT advisories from February below, and the mileage declared is still that in Feb (?);

Exhaust manifolds corroded
both rear exhaust back boxes corroded
Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e)

I like the more mental colours and even like the green and brown interiors. I was messaging the seller of the “7.3k” one with a view to looking at it but work got in the way. He’d had it for sale since February for £13k but would accept £12k. He also owns a 996 turbo and was off loading the C2 to get a camper. Ive just sent him a message asking what the score is so will post the results here.

It has a few advisories but IIRC the tyres had been sorted and the rest are easily fixable.

Original seller of the black/savannah car sold and he has no idea what the eBay ad is about.

Scam ads on ebay usually have an email address in the listing to bypass the actual user's details. This must be a hijack of some sort, a dry run for a future scam perhaps??
