Scam ads on ebay usually have an email address in the listing to bypass the actual user's details. This must be a hijack of some sort, a dry run for a future scam perhaps??
It was sold for a lot more than £7.3k but the eBay seller has 1000 mostly positive reviews so I’d say that’s a plausible scenario.

Anyone know anything about this 996? Seems incredibly cheap, surely not just an effect of the interior colour...
I think that's Savannah leather and much disliked! I reckon that is where the market is.
No way that is where the market is. You're deluded. There are plenty of maybe buyers out there juggling the decision to buy now or wait a bit or get a new kitchen etc. A real 996 for sale for this money would get snapped up.

Seller seems to have a legit profile but that's definitely a suspicious price for a manual coupe, even with that interior colour. Would expect listed for 12k, accept 10-11. Unless it's a cat c or has a tappy engine etc

As far the black one above goes, MoT advisories from February below, and the mileage declared is still that in Feb (?);

Exhaust manifolds corroded
both rear exhaust back boxes corroded
Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e)
Par for the course on a 996.

Would be a big bill at OPC.

Leave the manifold till it leaks (might never happen, they can look pretty bad)
Topgear back boxes are good value

full set disc and pads (consumables you'd be replacing at some point anyway) are fairly cheap

They do wear the rear tyres on one edge. But buying a car of this age it would be nice to have all new suspension arms and bushes and get it set right.

Anyway its moot as its a scam ad.

Glad that’s cleared up, thanks chaps. Probably for the best as I’m not really in a position to buy until early next year - shame there isn’t a £4k reduction for beige interior though, I quite like it!!

I have but I'll be changing them once they're done. I think they're a bit too hard for the weight of the car

Legally they can't sell that as sold as seen.

I doubt they will ever drop that low again, however its cars like that - manky leaky old Super Carreras, Targas, old 964s with 4 speed autoboxes etc, that got dragged up in value behind the actually nice air cooled stuff, that could drop a bit maybe.

Which makes a complete mockery of the value of a 200+bhp, reliable, better handling, more reliable Boxster as an alternative for 25% of the price!

Plus fees.

Still a good return for something worth a fraction of that not too long ago.

Literally, in 2012, similar one I looked at it was around 11k but CAT D. (Nothing major, just a door panel the owner had all photos). In that time, it was a fairly good price. Now today, 15-22 range gives you a good 987.2, trouble free motoring. But this is a good example I think, for 996 territory, as they are all at the moment 11k and you would probably end up spending 10k more for the small mechanical issues here and there. So , rather than a cheap 996, I would still look at something like this to be honest, working on it might be more fun too and easier probably.

A beetle just been sold over 9k, on the same auction though! laugh

That's cheap, if it's as solid as it looks then replace the hood and it's probably a £15k car on a good day

Including fees, it's £24,112. And the MoT in June identified an oil leak (mileage not warranted either)

The 'much sort after' is the alloys then I realised it should be 'sought.' smile

I loved them but its madness. My mom had one when I was a child, everything used to freeze during winters laugh Just the air-cool character and the styling somehow makes it a fun option but jez, not more than a few grounds imho.

A half decent hardtop is £5k these days, a project is easily the thick end of a grand unless it's really, really bad. I kinda miss my Beetle, pretty sure I'll have another one of these days!

Inspired in part by this forum, I have acquired an early 2003 986. Less than pristine, with scruffy leather/Alcantara seats and paint at each corner that suggests previous owners parked by touch. But it drives nicely and at £3,300 seems a reasonable buy.

Although my previous attempt at poverty Porsche ownership was a £1,000 924S, so in comparison the boxster seems expensive 😀

Any tips on dealing with worn (by which I mean threadbare) Alcantara would be much appreciated!
