I wouldn't want to be paying about right money from these people. I'd want a few grand just in case money. Unless that's what you meant?

Lots of their cars sell and then get listed again and again. Let's see what happens.

I prefer the boxster myself because I'm a hair dresser.

I take the point about the 'just in case' money but that's about right for a private sale on which you'd have no comeback. On that basis then it looks pretty good; it's from a dealer so if there is something nasty with it then you may find someone to help out.

I'm not sure what comeback you have if any from those people. I guess it depends on your desire to enter into litigation. Nowadays lots of people come back even after a private sale. Its seems quite common but if you ask me it's bad form.

I was thinking £11k ‘about right’ on the assumption that it was in good shape and ready to keep piling on the miles, but if one was to buy this as a daily and add another 15k pa for a couple of years, it would quickly become that bit harder to shift for good money and possibly riskier but no cheaper to run than an example priced at £15k but with considerably fewer miles. Twas ever thus.

There is a standard looking 2.9 with 17 alloys and only 65000 miles on ebay now for 11999 and it is a more genuine looking dealer so I think this needs to be below the magic 10 to make it a deal.

There was a red 2.9 987.2C on AT not long ago, with Spanish gearbox. Had 140k+ and was advertised for sub £9k at a dealer. Hung about for a while, but then had a fresh (premature) MOT and disappeared.

How are the 9a1 engines stacking up with higher (150k+) miles? And, how reliable are these PDK units, when approaching six-figure miles / what sort of maintenance do these require?

Suspect the 2.9 could reach ~285hp / 330NM with some minor fettling. This engine is on my "for future consideration" list.

9a1 bottom end and indirect injection = pretty bomb-proof?

2001 2.7 with 108K sold for £2.7K

I think the interesting thing about PDK is that it runs a higher pressure oil system which is probably better than a basic old fashioned manual where the fluid just sloshes around. I had to replace the box on my 996 and found out that box failures and bearing replacements are common. Also we know that the clutch can get heavy where as again with a PDK box you'd never know. So I see benefits to the PDK box in terms of longevity. However saying all that it is going to be pretty complicated and therefore expensive. I recently enquired at Porsche Dealer how much a new box is for my 981 which is PDK. They said 5900[ish - I think] which was on exchange basis. That's cheap compared to 10 grand for a brand new 996 manual box.

The £2300 one was won by somebody with zero feedback so likely a timewaster, Mot shows it need tyres, brakes and a CV boot at least.

But the other one (£2701) was a high f/b winner and had a clean MoT on 2nd Nov. New front struts too if the advisory in 2018 was rectified properly. Seems cheap enough if there aren't any fault lamps on the dashboard, headroom to spruce it up.

Always like how ‘Cars with No Reserve’ don’t even bother getting a car back and cleaned before posting, just take the photos at BCA Blackbushe while still in line and go from there.
Don’t all their ads have lots of weasel words that try to make out it’s sold as seen, no returns? Wouldn’t like to try and get anything back from them post sale

I've bid on some cars on there but never won any. Their ads are annoyingly long but it does say this:

"Full payment must be made within 5 days of the auction ending and we will ask for a £100 deposit to secure the vehicle if you are not collecting within 48 hours of the auction closing. This deposit will be fully refunded if you have viewed the car at our premises and you decide not to proceed. Collection is strictly by appointment only so that we can ensure we have the vehicle onsite for when you come."

I would make sure I could go (they are near Reading) within 5 days and wouldn't give them a penny until I'd checked the car. If it's not as described, you don't have to buy it, ebay / auction rules, not theirs. Anybody who pays full up front for a car they haven't seen close up is well... wobble

Does that make the car worthless or temptingly cheap.

That place strikes me as very straight. You can buy a car there for a cheap price and it will likely need a load of work doing and be covered in imperfections

That’s a million times more honest that most places and or people who will sell you a similar vehicle for the highest possible price.

It’s not for me but you can’t fault their approach

Or more likely it was them bidding on their own cars. They are well known for it.

a neighbour of mine sold his 997.2 CS due to coking issues. I didnt think the 9A1 suffered from this but his exhibited all the signs of valve coking. i guess the indirect injection may prove to have better longevity in the future.

I thought it was a non issue on Porsche as the injections were positioned differently to the VAG engines that suffer from this like on the rs4 / r8. So that on the dfi engines the fuel injection would constantly wash any carbon deposits away. Happy to be wrong but thought that to be the case.

How much of an issue is it to take the heads off and clean it though? I guess the cylinder layout might make access harder without dropping the engine out? But even then why sell the car

I can’t say I’ve heard of it happening to any other cars on here?
