So what if Chris Harris has a 2.7 on 17s. That's how they came. What cars has he had since. It's a fallacy to say because he had one it is the best combination of somehow some sort of ringing endorsement.
I think the point isn't just that Harris had one but that he gave it a glowing review.
Yeah, he's moved on a bit since then.

I know someone who had a new-ish Cayman from an OPC and used it regularly in the real world of ownership, as opposed to the being paid to give opinions on things people pay you to drive. It fell apart and the bills associated with its gradual demise were hilarious - it being a laugh or cry situation. He punted it to WBAC just to be rid of the piece of st and will never buy another Porsche, of any type, ever again.
I know someone (me) who had three Caymans over a period of 12 years and had to replace a total of one temperature sensor and two lower control arms (after over 40,000 'real world' miles on that particular car).

I keep buying Porsches.
I would be disappointed if those 3 Caymans weren't reliable. They are after all still a relatively new car. Presumably you didn't buy a 2005/06 each time you swapped. Look at people running 986 and early 987s now and yes there is maintenance to do.

Absolutely - but the anecdote was about a 'new-ish Cayman' and I was adding some empirical balance.

He daily'd it and put more miles on it. Maybe that's where he went wrong.

I'm hoping my experience is more like yours than his.

Love the ambers, especially on a Silver car. Also, Savannah far nicer than a dull black interior.

986S, Red interior, silver exterior with ambers.....yes please!

There's been lots done to my 996. I'd guess it's mechanically in the best condition it's ever been over the last 10 to 15 years because a lot of this stuff was probably original. But the body is now looking a bit tired so it just feels like a never ending program of work.

That's my 996 colour scheme. I cant decide if the exterior needs a bit of colour here and there to liven it up or if I should just leave it well alone.

Would be nice if they ever made that combination. I've seen plenty of silver cars with pink interiors. wink

Jethro's car also had a recent engine rebuilt from Porsche Classic. And I think his car was PBBB's old car, already had an engine rebuild anyway, so this would be third. When Jethro posted a video about that car, it immediately became quite popular, like "ropey" looking cheap 12k but reliable porsche... Of course reality is another story, like Chris harris's car(s) thumbup

My mate's 996.2 has a terracotta looking trim. His is a dark green colour. Its a good combo if you're not a die hard black trim lover. I don't really have any good pics.

Like some sort of sexual deviant I LOVE the fried eggs and dislike the later 996.2 style lights.

I also quite like all the interior colours but it has to be on the right car do no green leather with a red car or savannah on silver. I also like Ocean Jade Metallic.
Well said that! Exactly my thoughts on the subject.

You don't have to justify yourself to anyone pal! Just buy what you like and enjoy it.
You also don't have to be really adversarial about such minor stuff! Just say 'nah mate that's not it' or something that's my tip.
Thanks and welcome back it's been quiet without you smile

The supposition and implication earlier on was that as Harris had a 2.7 on 17s that this was reason to justify that combination being the best. You and I know what is best is entirely subjective. If it was that clear cut then people wouldn't willingly chose the something different and by default have something worse.

As for the other stuff, you seem to have taken some sort of personal offence to it. I know you have had those different cars. At various times you have compared them to others even venturing to give opinions on what you like. You used to espouse the merits of the 2.5 being cable throttle, revvier and having useable power for the road. Just like others who will evolve with their cars and their reference points, what one thinks is the best at one time doesn't always hold true for ever. These days you more often write that the 3.2 is probably the best 986 for people to buy. Whilst you may not have ever used the words my all time favourite is, the best is, you write so much here that it's clear what you think. The flip flopping is not in relation to your car buying but a description of how one's views and preferences for cars can change. I mean if Harris really thought the 2.7 on 17s was so glorious why doesn't he still drive one?
