Present company excepted, obviously. Don't think any 986 or 987 came from the factory with an lsd. Was it an option per the 996? I seem to remember the perceived wisdom back in the day was that a caymen would beat a 911 round the ring if it had a limited slip diff so the factory forbid it cos of brand hierarchy or whatever.
I think everything Porsche post about 2002 has traction control.
The asking price for the purple car far exceeds that of some ~90k mile 550 Anniversaries that have sold recently. Appreciate that's a not significant delta in miles, but still.
Whilst the colour is nice, that can't be worth more than £7k with all the stars aligned, and on a good day. Or is someone going to point out how wrong that statement is?

Something weird going on with that purple Boxster - the purple looks matt metallic, rather than gloss (it is only reflecting bright light, not any actual reflections). That would indicate a vinyl wrap, rather than a factory paint job?
Also, why does it have black seats with a blue hood and interior and grey carpets? Shouldn't it have matching Metropole Blue seats?

Yep, I find it strange many are mourning the days when you could buy a nice air-cooled for £15k yet fail to mention they are virtually giving away 986's ATM and the whole 987 platform is a relative bargain. But it's not a 911, so can't be taken seriously by many it would appear.anonymous said:

I'll see your purple and i'll raise you an Amethyst. I really like this, shame it's a CAT D but it is keenly priced because of it. 2011, 77k miles £12,000https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-search?search-tar...
I wouldn't pay over the odds for an anniversary either, but neither of the ones that sold recently were "shagged" - 90k miles, recent clutch, arms, etc, etc. £8k.
A 986 on 60k miles - assuming original clutch, not much work in the suspension department, etc. Yeah, it's a rare colour, and has a fancy exhaust - doesn't mean you can ask £9.5k for it. Well you can, and you might get that. But the thought of even contemplating parting with that much for a 986 with 60k miles seems ludicrous.

Might pop down to have a look at this very early example
I think the asking price is quite strong and that exhaust would need to go however the dealer claims the previous owner spent a fortune on maintenance and it’s got stacks of paperwork.
Any thoughts?

Saw that on Fb, chap wanted a quick sale to buy a 4x4... £2750, next day on AT! I think the asking price is quite strong and that exhaust would need to go however the dealer claims the previous owner spent a fortune on maintenance and it’s got stacks of paperwork.

Well - i went & picked up this yesterday - first impressions...LOVE IT!
someone has put some rather odd film on the indicators (i think it may have had a 'full black' look in the past and it was previously wrapped white - which has left a few areas to surgically remove - but is was a good price and thus far looking good!
nice few cosmetic jobs to be going on with - which will keep me busy this summer, (as befit a fifteen year old motor):
- Headlamp refurb
- Centre consol arm rest (split leather-ette)
- few bits of trim to attend to on the roof (cracked plastic)
- Handbrak and gearknob could usefully be replaced
that pretty much it!
Being anal as i am, I've transcribed the service records by year and owner, and it looks like everyone who has had it has looked after it - it has pilot sports all round, 4 previous owners in 15 years
I really like the spec - its super basic. I did look at the options codes and short of a few on the wheels & the headrests the 'options' were basically that it was Finnish built and is a C16 UK spec car....
no exactly dripping with extras
'I dont want anything fancy, that'll go wrong & be a bother' - as my dear old father would say, as he consistently chose base spec company cars without electric windows or any tachie toys back in the eighties, much to my dismay... anyhows, i digress..
wierdly - it smells, after a spirited run, rather like my old 964 used to - very difficult to describe - & dont know it this is just and older car & hot oil thing.
Hopefully it wont leak like a sieve like that one used to
anyhows - thought i would update with my semi impulse purchse, having stumbled over this thread and in a fit of post lockdown crazyness - here are a few pics:
& for the benefit of the tape - the ebay auction landed at £5300, not meeting reserve, seller was after £6500 & we did a deal at £6200 - with a full tank of fuel

When you said wrapped white I thought I'd seen it before. I went back 30 pages and found the ebay link. I was looking for a cheap Boxster at the time and this was the cheapest. I couldn't bring myself to buy a wrapped car, you can't trust what's under it but it seems in this case it was decent. Here is the link if you want to see how it was.
