Yes, disappointed by cmoose's absence. Whilst he could be combative he was knowledgable and was certainly influential in my picking this up last weekend.
Not the cheapest 986 out there, but with a history that, along with cmoose's musings on the relative risk of IMS armageddon, makes me not too worried about impending catastrophe and feels like good value. Also, the sellers (Rindt Vehicle Designs, who I had never heard of before, but have a spectacular workshop), were a pleasure to deal with and did an unexpected amount of preventative maintenance, on a car I had already agreed to buy, prior to picking it up.
Anyway, have had the car a week and absolutely love it! Coming from 3 years of Jag X350 ownership, the change is massive, particularly when it comes to steering feel. Definitely feels like one of the best value drivers cars out there.
Edit to say that the pics are lifted from the sellers website.

Boxsterrot over silver is always going to be a timeless combo. My previous 2.7 was also a V reg, having been registered in Jan 2000. Found out it had a dual row IMSB, when the clutch and flywheel were relplaced.
Miss that car.

Thank you. I'm not normally a fan of silver cars, but found the combination of sober exterior and "noisy" interior really worked for me. It's done 87,000 miles with patchy service history but the MOT history suggested enthusiastic owners and being well maintained. I have a well respected Porsche indy nearby who has been great with advice and I'll trust them with anything beyond my meagre skills. As I understand it, it will have the dual row IMS as it was registered on January 1st 2000 so is a 1999 car. As I'm now working from home, my annual mileage will be 6-8000 at most, so I'll try to drive it as intended and at some point soon the clutch will need doing and I'll do the IMS, RMS and flywheel at the same time. That sounds bizarre! Does anyone know why? He has contributed to PH with loads of write-ups, and driving comparisons.. I quite enjoyed his Pork features, big shame really.Edited by LordHaveMurci on Thursday 22 October 20:06

I occasionally find myself thinking, do I spend too much time on PH. I have an interest in cars which if you think about it is a bit odd. But none the less I like cars. And so i end up here talking to hopefully like minded people. But we're all complete strangers and therefore what's the point really. Maybe we would do better in life forging relationships with actual people rather than Internet strangers. Maybe he has finally decided he doesn't need to do this anymore. Maybe he has decided he doesn't want to do this anymore. Whatever the reason I wish him well. I never met the guy but assumed we'd get along. I think he made a massive contribution to PH and both it and he will be missed. His passing has encouraged me to spend less time on here myself. Hopefully he is happy without us lot and investing his time in other things. And just like that he was gone ... forever.

Me too. Some really great knowledge. The last I saw of him, he was posting in a few NP&E threads which might not have been the best mix with his style...

Well I hope you won't stop posting that often, I quite enjoy your pork content too! Genuine user experience with humuour.I occasionally find myself thinking, do I spend too much time on PH. I have to make an observation here, hopefully no one gets offended and mods won't execute me either, ehm.
I do spend loads free-time here too, it's fun and mostly informative. I mean looking around other forums, such as real-estate, finance and business. There are people with fantastic insight and information. Blimey, how much help I received from chaps in real-estate forums such as builder/plumber contacts and etc... I do find the pork forums quite "unique" too, as a former owner. In my opinion, there are some owners here quite "over-sentimental" about the brand, and they do get very upset with any negative opinion on their cars. I always enjoyed this poverty pork thread, because it is simply showing how crap some porks are , and many of us get to enjoy them for a while thanks to these ridiculous cheap prices. I have to stay, I've never seen such over-sentimantal owners on other forums such as VW, Lexus or even other sections, it is something to do with the brand I guess, I do not know and its my opinion, I might be fully wrong as usual? I've been on boxa.net and 911uk too, many owners there quite informative and polite. Anyway, I hope to enjoy here more, and I hope he would contribute again here or some other platforms.

He did well at the start of Coronavirus, posted some really good stuff although when I made that observation he called me a 'creep' which was a bit of a shame. Sadly thought he soon after that got drawn into yet another ego-fueled argument with another poster who was obviously a lot less well-informed than him. He didn't seem to realise that you don't have to have the last word and belittle someone to win a debate. Let your arguments stack up on their own merit and people will judge for themselves.
Indeed. The problem is with NP&E, there are a lot of posters waiting to bait you into that if you are even slightly that way inclined. It's worse still on the CV19 and Brexit threads where most seem to sit at the polar extremes of the debate and will only listen to arguments or evidence that support their view.Back to cars...
If I wasnt about to move house in a month, and had the cash to spend, I wouldnt be sharing this one until i'd seen (bought!) it.

Posted as it looks to be in good nick, and its Orient Red - the 2.7 I owned was Orient Red and I've only ever saw one other Orient Red car, a 996, and that was at a PCGB event. Its a stunning colour in real life, one of those which photos do no justice.
This one is a 3.2, has a painted roll bar and console and GT style centre cubby delete(which I loved), sports seats, and nearly a third of the mileage of my old 2,7, so I really do fancy it...!

Really nice and clean, MOT history top-notch. However, this is the age/mileage, it might require some serious mechanical maintenance, so I would try to get a reduction as much as possible. If I wasnt about to move house in a month, and had the cash to spend, I wouldnt be sharing this one until i'd seen (bought!) it.

It does make me laugh that statement
At coming up to 60, yes, it may be starting to need some love, But I can assure you it would be less than the work I put into my 130k mile example!
I'm a big proponent of high milage cars and I've owned many, however there are some things that are very difficult to reverse - interior trim wear, seat wear, paint condition etc without an unlimited budget.
Mechanically my old one was perfect (because everything was new!) but aesthetically it lacked a bit.

I must admit I do like the retro feel with the centre console delete. I fitted a Pioneer DAB250 Carplay unit to my car, but in some ways wish I had gone console delete instead.
I wonder if he had refreshed the suspension on that car?
I have just done a complete suspension refresh on the front of mine, it is not exactly cheap on these cars. By that I mean compared with the cars value.
Buying a tired 996 would make more sense, same costs to get them right and worth considerably more once done.
But I do really like the 986, so worth spending some money on it.
