I've just bought some poverty Pork…

Think we’d have to differ on that. It’s had a very substantial amount of expensive maintenance done. Most of the spend would be on that not the stereo and carbon console
FWIW, the interior is likely to have been specified from new, which would have added £££ - I don't think anyone in their right mind (certainly within the remit of this thread, at least) would be spending a significant amount retrofitting this stuff to an otherwise bland car, nor do I think such an interior would command a significant (more than a couple of hundred £) premium over something more ordinary. I view it as extended vs non-extended leather. The former is certainly more desirable, but there doesn't seem to be a significant delta on the price a car would fetch in this market now.We may have to agree to disagree on this, but I having a Cat-D marker does impact the value IMO, even though the significance of this is lessened as the cars get older.
My own car is on its original engine (knock on wood), but is high spec, similar mileage and has every single invoice from new. New Konis and H&R "M030s" will be going on this year. Mileage on engine notwithstanding, it's as mechanically sound as can be (clutch, flywheel, RMS, 4 x droplinks, front top mounts, coolant tank, radiators, all discs and pads done recently, 986.2 roof retrofit, wearing on matching Goodyears).
But even after the suspension refresh, I feel asking circa £6,500 for it would be being rather optimistic, and it's a non-Cat car.

Forgive me for asking but it doesn’t appear as though this change is actually going to save you that much money by the time choice done all the work and upgrades and taken a trade bid on you 996?
Haha, yes man-maths can be a powerful force...It was a private deal and I got the Boxster +£7k. 7k was the exact figure required to top up the house fund.
Now the 7k is in the house deposit pot i have sold the carbon fibre ducktail that was destined for the 996 for £1500, which pays for the seats and some other bits/labour. Other things will be done as-and-when I have the spare cash and I will be focusing mainly on things that can be swapped over to any 996 I may buy again in the future - seats, GT3 bumper & skirts, carbon bonnet, even the lower console delete kit.
Man maths!

Your car sounds even better then. In fairness there is no standard pricing on such old cars as condtion spec & milage varies considerably, however I would gladly pay a premium for a glut of recent work vs a low milage example.
If £2k makes the difference when you're buying a 17 year old Porsche you may run into difficulties when a few things need sorting.

I agree with you on all of this.If £2k makes the difference when you're buying a 17 year old Porsche you may run into difficulties when a few things need sorting.
It's just some of the posts in this thread read as if one should aim to pay sub £6k to bag a car with 60k miles with all the problem areas attended to, on new suspension, which makes me chuckle
FWIW, in the last 2 years / 17k miles, I've spent just circa £700 on six tyres. Even consumables and general maintenance can add up, and personally, I feel a lot (not all!) of the costs are no different to what a contemporary leggy BMWs / Mercedes would set you back.

I was trying to work our why I recognised this car and realised we live just around the corner and bring our daughter to the playpark in the background. Always liked seeing your red 996 and will keep an eye out for the Boxster! No poverty pork in our household sadly (although I did have a peridot Cayman R until a couple of years ago) but keen to pick one up at some point!

By 'old' I was thinking, new/used as apposed to 'vintage'
I put in a red wine fuelled bid for an early Natas deck about two years ago on eBay. I woke up thinking "S**T! have I just spent £500 on an old skate deck that I can do nothing with other than look at?!" Luckily, when I logged in to see I had been outbid, and by some margin too! Went for nearly $900.
I must admit, I hadn't followed the vintage scene at that point so it was quite a shock.
I've been thinking about a similar style knob for my 986. Not sure if they made the one above but I found these guys. https://www.stuttgart-classica.co.uk/911/wooden-ge...

What do we think of this one chaps. Owner claims he has spent 9 grand on it in a year. Just shows how these cars can swallow money once you start spending. What's that red shock in the pics is it a koni?
My spider senses see full leather door cards and the central air vents in colour so it could have extended leather. Also has lot of carbon which isn't my thing.
I see a modern stereo but the extra body work would have to go and the wheels but if the cat d thing is recent and not a massive repair then it could be a good punt.

Meh, I can see budget discs, DIY sprayed around the edge and rusty bells, presumably budget pads and other parts recently fitted also: I'd ask to see the invoices before viewing. - EG the new water pump & thermostat manufacturer. Also, based on spelling and grammar, I'd take bets on Hylomar was used in lieu of new gaskets...My spider senses see full leather door cards and the central air vents in colour so it could have extended leather. At that mileage I'd want to know the hot idle oil pressure, actually don't think the 986 has the gauge on the dash come to think of it. Poor grammar, puts me off: if he can't spell, can he use a torque wrench? = Low confidence of install quality of those new bits.
Poor light fit around the rear 3/4 and paint doesn't look great there either, sign of the cheap boy racer lights (You'll want to swap for factory items for about £500..) or was that where it was crashed.
Jubilee clip on the rack bellows......fml. Hiding a leak or just poor quality install or both....?
Spoiler & over sills, no words.
They look like 1998 Audi S8 wheels? They actually look ok on the 986 though tbf.
"Ball joints top and bottom" - It is McPhereson strut - There are no top ball joints...
The 'S' boot emblem is neither in the correct colour, size or position.
It appears to have Zunsport side intake grilles fitted but none anywhere else such as over the rads, the only place they are needed, I'd want to check the rads...
Just because he over paid by not checking it was a write off doesn't mean the next buyer should - I'd expect it to list for £5k and would still want a discount..
The MOT history reads like a horror story, multiple advisories for leaking rack (told you), presumably not addressed, one advisory for 'rear oil leak', presumably RMS/IMS weep, presumably not addressed. Multiple CEL fails and an airbag light fail, presume front impact = bumper off job to diagnose extent of repaired damage. Advisories on leaking rear struts, presumably not fixed.
IMHO it's been poorly looked after and it's worth £4k, if all the PO's (and I bet it's had lots) haven't done routine maintenance of MOT items what hope does it have of being given regular oil changes. I bet he bought it for £2k written off at auction..

Maybe not quite poverty, but if you’re after a Cayman 987.2, this Cat N is about 25% less than non-registered. Owner appears to be open about it and some record of work done

I'd go for a gander at it myself but the aforementioned house sale has put a stop to any more toys for the time being.
