Regarding 924s - there has been a number of them through Collecting Cars in the past weeks and months which i've been keeping an eye on, and currently, my favourite yet - this absolutely lovely vision in Brown over Brown:

Colour, stance, wheels, tyres, condtion, all adds up for me on this one. Its a cracker.
Gosh - that's utterly gorgeous. I'm almost quite tempted - it's simply lovely. https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1980-porsche-9...

Agreed, that 924S(hed) for £999 is quite over-priced. They simply aren't worth that much and still cost a bomb to restore, meaning that ropey ones are financial write-offs quite easily.

First time I have visited CC website. I have registered on there to bid on a number plate. This car looks pretty mint. I’m am amazed at how many detailed photos are available. Also a lovely dark blue 993 currently on there
Make sure you check out their buyer’s fees, in particular the minimum fee.ATM said:
Where do you stand with this CC website if you feel like the car needs an inspection prior to purchase?
PPIs are encouraged while the auction is live, which you need to arrange with the owner/seller at their premises as CC don't hold any of the cars listed. You could inspect a car after you've 'won' the auction and decide not to go through with the sale but you'd still need to stump up the buyer's fee to CC regardless.
It's just like ebay tbh, except there are no seller's fees, only buyers's fees.

This might be a bargain.
More than likely needs a rebuild.

Looks like my very own poverty pork is going up for sale. I acquired a project car and wifey showed her dismay that I was entertaining keeping both.
996, C2 manual on resale silver. Plenty of the usual fails done and 160k under its belt. It’ll probably become the cheapest one on eBay/ PH/ AT when the ad goes live.

I tried to arrange an inspection of a CC auction Cayman and it wasn’t happening. They were happy to sell at a fixed price to me over the phone but were in no way interested in letting me speak to the seller, arrange a viewing by myself or a mechanic.
Who was "they" in this case? Was it a managed sale? What you describe is in contradiction to CC's T&Cs. They ask (admittedly it doesn't say they force/ensure) all owners to make all lots available for inspection during the auction and that no sale should be facilitated outside of the auction. If it was CC themselves that sounds a bit suspect. If it was a managed sale did you report the problem to CC? I messaged (or emailed) CC as I didn’t want to publicly post a message asking for a viewing. I got a call back from CC who knew the price their private client was looking for. They asked what i would pay for the car, I offered but was told I was below what the private seller was looking for (+£16k from memory). There was no way in that call I was getting a viewing based on my offer price. I doubt my request was even passed to their customer.
The car didn’t sell during the timed auction and I didn’t bid as I knew the reserve price but the car subsequently shows it was sold below the figure I offered on the phone. Strange all round.
Car in question.

I've read on other threads that they put the squeeze on seller to lower/drop their reserve which probably happened after your contact. I'm not sure why run of the mill stuff like this is going up on Collecting Cars. I see it as a replacement service for people that would have typically used a traditional specialist auction house. High end sports and classics typically.
The seller of this Cayman would have been better off on Auto Trader.
