Personally I'd be looking for a car from Boxa.net or TIPEC rather than PCGB.
Don't think you can prescribe like that. Not everyone with a good example uses a given platform. Some good cars on AT and PH. Some crap ones on the enthusiast forums. And vice versa. Looking at TIPEC, last 986 advertised there was June 2020. More frequent on Boxa.net, but still only a tiny fraction of the available cars.

I wouldn't worry what platform it's advertised on. You have to keep an eye on the lot.
Boxa seems to have very few cars if you ask Me. You might be better off with a wanted thread on boxa. Maybe some owners on there sell their cars elsewhere.

Do you not tend to find the "wanted" ads attract all sorts of folk trying to get rid of all sorts of shabby stuff at silly prices?
(Speaking from the experience of one wanted ad in 1976).

The croc is a 3.2 melt-edition and is about 5k miles away from a set of barrels..
The 12k box looks ok especially being the reliable 2.7 but it's a no simply due to the type font & colour used.

The benefit of getting involved with something like Boxa is that you can research some owner cars and their experience. Even better if one of those comes up for sale. I've had running reports there ever since I bought both my Boxsters. Also as you get involved you will get to know people and from time to time deals happen without the cars ever coming public. I've had quite a few people contact me when I've posted that I'm contemplating selling and various people contact me off the back of just reading what I have done to my car.

If you're hunting a gen one 3.2 that hasn't been mercilessly Barried, slammed on silly wheels (that red one on the 19-inch 9x7 wheels will be a total stshow to drive), or punted about between 20 careless owners, this looks like it might be a decent buy:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202205185...

The market is very weird right now. Prices all over the place. Weird times all round so I suppose that stands to reason!
That's actually a good spot.
I've been looking for yellow or red mainly, i keep thinking blue more (too) conservative for me, but that, one owner car has to be worth a look. It's 500 miles from me, so would need someone to give it a look over for me.
Made contact, two viewings tomorrow, if not sold I have a professional inspection lined up.

Speaking of how weird the market is right now, here's a 3.2 Tip 986.1 on 60k miles for 19,995, private sale.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202205215...

It's a bit tiresome to be buying right now.

the bloke selling on behalf never rang back on Sat or Sun, I've called half a dozen times and left messages. Either sold or seller decided against it.

Anyone know this one in Castleford please/

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202205225...

2 owners, low milesge, Mot history shows nothing serious except a liking for nails in tyres. Not sure about the "replica turbo wheels" comment.

thanks

For what is relatively low miles that drivers seat bolster has seen some serious wear huh, its torn. By comparison to this bolster at near double mileage.

It is pretty scuffed, can't see the tear. MoT history mileage seems to tally back to 2006/25K miles. Suppose a look at the service history would be an assist.
Heavy driver sliding into car through a not fully open door? (See car parked close to wall).
Looking at quite a few cars where the bolster is scuffed even at low mileage.
That one you highlight was criticised on here a few days ago.

I used that as an example of comparing bolster wear, hadn't looked much more at the cars pros and cons.
It looks like a tear to me, maybe the angle on the pics but I reckon in real like that has torn through.

No tear visible in the pics. Doubt it is actually torn. Just scuffed, albeit quite badly.

It's probably got the 'turbo look' wheels which were a (very popular) 18" Porsche wheel option back in the day. The 'true' turbo wheels have hollow spokes to make them slightly lighter and look a little bit different I think.

Looks like a solid car to me, it's on standard seats so even if they're a bit worn it's a good excuse to out some sports seats in there (ideally 987 ones but they're pretty pricey...) Which are a good improvement.

Cayman was launched with 3.4, Boxster was 3.2 until later
when it got the 3.4......

Still chocolate, granted; but never 3.2
