Engine sounds fine to Me
Thanks, was just one of the "rev ups", there was a "tinkling" sound, bit like something light catching the blades of an alternator fan or timing light catching a pulley sort of noise. (Can you tell I'm used to setting the timing on older cars?)

Possibly a noisy Idler pulley. I have never heard a car with bore score but I am told it is a bottom end grumble or knock. Google will have some samples. If you don't like to hear the odd weird noise or clatter from an engine then dont buy one of these cars. You will be constantly worried.

Can I just ask about the strainer wire in the roof, I watched a vid of a roof replacement, is the straining wire on it's own a difficult/expensive job?

Still dip into this thread and especially after having spent a month swearing at my Lotus, I do occasionally wonder about going back to a Boxster, which (we all in here know) is still the biggest value cheap sports car you can buy.

Tonnes and tonnes of cars for sale currently as usual in Summer. But this one sticks out to me.

Early 3.2 - the one to go for in my opinion.
Good solid colour.
Tidy.
Half decent wheels and tyres.
Full Leather. Not Black.
Plenty of miles but not worn out, moon-and-back type plenty.
Good MOT history which you can easily match up to the servicing and repairs.

It just seems 'right' to me. Definitely one to go see if I was in the market with 5 to ten grand to spend.

Sounds nice but black is a definite no no. As is grey and I'm not keen on silver (but that 996 might have been an exception due to miles/owners but I see the price rising now as the auction draws to a close).

@skyedriver

Not sure if this has been shared yet, and I've no idea of history, MOT or otherwise

I have seen it advertised for a while and while I'm about 250 mile from it, I used to live a couple of mile from the dealer. I've a mate who lives half a mile from the place but he's up here in Scotland on holiday! He didn't know the dealer surprisingly, thinks they're new. Initially I was after yellow or red but would take blue if it was otherwise a good car I guess. Need to take a whole day out to go and look at it, would be around a 12 - 13 hour round trip unfortunately and I'm struggling to find a day due to family etc. Wonder why it's been for sale for so long? Economic climate? THere seems to be a lot of cars coming to market.

Only the dealer can answer why they've had it so long, although it's only been a month give or take

Best thing to do is get the details from them so you can investigate the history yourself and if it's positive, get it inspected to save you the trip

It's lost its original wheels and been de-ambered, which are minor points but may turn off some of the more committed cork sniffers among the early 986 aficionado community.

Supply has been fairly plentiful re 986s this year from what I have seen so I think something has to be either really pretty good, marketed well by a savvy specialist or fairly conspicuous value to shift right now? That car looks OK, perhaps needs to be just a bit cheaper or marketed better?

They could be the original wheels. Mine was on 18" turbo twists when I bought it & the first owner had paid a small fortune for them when new.
I dumped them as I hated them & put on GT3 style splits.

They're 17-inch 2.5/2.7 wheels.

Liked the look of a red "S" that appeared on ebay yesterday but after the big drop in certain share prices today i'm thinking a 1/24 scale model may be all I can afford? Time to reflect.
