Am having the belts replaced in a couple weeks time, on a car with 55,000 miles (not been done for 6 years!) and my question is do I get the water pump done too as a precautionary measure?!

Any idea how much they are and where's the best place to go for one?

Anything else worth doing while they've got that bit of the engine in bits/uncovered?

cheers

While you are in there might as well replace all belts, inc ancillery jobbies) plus v important= new tensioner blade on cam chain tensioner & check condition of chain.

Get cam & balance belts checked for tension after about 800 miles.

Is the new chain tensioner such an issue at 55k miles?

Deffo worth inspecting the cam chain and tensioner. A new tensioner isn't cheap, but a replacement plastic slipper (the bit that wears out) is.

Its definatley worth getting the water pump done at the same time, if it goes at a later date you'll be have to pay for the removal of the cambelt again so whilst its off might as well get it done.

Def do waterpump recently had this work done myself, make sure you get all tensioners and balance tensioners replaced not just the belts. Waterpump was approx £180 for me I think at independent
