Hi
slightly concerned!! Given that the new Boxster and Cayman share the same running gear etc. anyone experiencing this? below
I have just taken delivery of a new cayman 2.7 PDK. I had a boxster 981 manual previous to this.
I have noticed when engaging Drive there is an audible clunk and slight judder as the gearbox engages 1st gear?
I have also noticed that when slowing down quickly coming down the gears I have the same noise but more noticeable?
When using the paddles it does not do this?
Anyone having similar issue? do I have a problem with the PDK box (my dealer says it normal and will bed in? just done 200 miles.
Any advice would be appreciated.
BoxS PDK.. heard a couple of clunks as you describe early on but not heard anything for a while, now on 2600m. Enjoy the car, rag it after 2000m, if you have a problem with the box (I dont think you have) it will appear within the next 2 years and under warranty.

One of the things which steered me towards a manual is that I found in gentle driving it was far from unusual to get a bit of a "clunk" from the PDK. Shuffling between traffic lights and stuff like that. Fine on the move though.

Yep agree. Not sure if it's just me but as the miles rack up I find sometimes that "clunk" is getting louder. Anyone else find that? I'm at 13k miles.

Those wheels really don't suit it.
I saw a 991 turbo at an OPC yesterday with those wheels - don't think they're Porsches finest design.

Some people think wine must be good if it has 15% alcohol or more.

And some people think wheels must be good if they have 20" diameter or more.

It wasn't particularly the size I found offensive, rather the design.

They just don't look great.

My point entirely - just because they're big doesn't mean they look good. Purely personal opinion of course.

Newbie, so be gentle smile

Great thread and have spent a few hours reading the posts, some great advice.

I am looking at trading in the TTS to get a Boxster S.

Anyone had any experience in getting a discount of the dealer when buying new, or do Porsche never discount?

TIA

I got a small contribution that basically covered the RFL for a new reg car, but no "proper" % discount and I did ask about it. That was about 18 months ago now though

New Boxster ordered June last year. I got 10% off the list price including options on a built to order car.
Did involve a lot of serious negotiation with 6 OPC's and had to take finance from Porsche (VW). Settled it off after a month.
In the mix was also a £500 contribution (incl. in the 10%) from Porsche finance which is not the case at the momment

I don't know the specification of your car but quite simply the more you load it with fat margin options the more likely you are to be able to negotiate a discount. A huge slice of their profit is (can be) in the options.

I was very careful in loading it with options. Only 7 in total
1. PDK
2. Cayman S 19" wheels
3. Cruise control
4. Wind deflector
5. Heated Seats
6. Auto dim mirrors
7. Sports tailpipes
8. Smokers pack. This was free !!! Wanted this to make central area neater, I do not smoke.
No expensive options of leather, sat-nav, xenons, sports chrono etc

Very similar to my spec Noel - only 4 things I would definitely say I couldnt live without - Boxter S, Sports Exhaust, Full leather Dash, PDK.
I have my deposit on a GT3 but I can certainly say I will miss her once she's gone and after all the recent GT3 issues not really sure if I am doing the right thing.

Options are a personal thing depending on what you want out of the car, so this is merely my opinion

TPM - wouldn't bother, just check the pressures yourself
DAB radio - reception issues? Apart from station choice, what is the benefit over standard radio in a car?
Telephone module - I have it on mine and I wonder why. Seems to be only of use if you intend to put a SIM card into the PCM module itself (as opposed to Bluetooth connection to the phone)
Carrera S wheels - I like these, but I wonder if you will miss not having PASM on 20" rims

in addition:

Sports Exhaust - really do consider this, changes the exhaust note a lot and is one option I wouldn't skip if I were ordering again
Manual transmission - unless you really want PDK, then save and get a manual. The gearbox is lovely and really suits the car
"Proper" colour - I find grey a bit depressing on a sports car

Forgot to say, if you do go PDK then get the Sport Design steering wheel else you don't get the paddles behind the wheel!
