Saw my second 981 this lunch time heading around Oldcotes - Blyth road I think which is about 8 miles north of Worksop - It was a white one with black roof if it is anyone on here. I was in a nice big shiny new silver Q7 which is pretty hard to bloody miss because it is that shiny.

I heard that - miss Edaisy.

Bye the way are there any 981 owners or Porscheee owners fancy the run out to Porsche on the promenade (Llandudno) on Sunday 28th April - thinking about taking the missus for a good run out.
Miss Edaisy indeed,I'll give you that one very good I had to chuckle.

Well its a distinct possibility that we could make Llandudno if the numbers are right to make it worth while, haven't been to Llandudno in years so it should be alright, I'm sure the
locals will have forgotten by now.......hopefully.....Ba Baaa.

And just to clarify the Q7 is both big and shiny so thats shiny as well as big but in both cases shiny.

I have just put the shiny kids to bed so not quite thinking big or straight but my nice glass of Rioja that mrs Lumpy has poured me looks big & shiny. lol

Anyways - You want to be out getting some run in miles on that hairdressers car you have just bought if you fancy that run out to Llandudno. Gonna start another thread on that one as it would be good to get some of us together for a run out and a real chinwag.

But ah my Lumpy friend I have been out this very evening getting to know my 981S a little better, which is small and shiny by the way.

Brought up the first 100 miles after my little run which was curtailed due to more heavy rain and increasingly heavy traffic, but what I can
tell you is once you get up over 48 mph there's a fifth gear and then a sixth all heady stuff this.

With serious Head back on Aunt Sally I'm quite impressed so far,the Bose is very good, it replicated my CD so well I actually thought I was
indeed at a Nolans concert.

The switch gear had a reassuringly good quality feel to it and the leather interior added to the ambience, the head room was excellent and at
times I doubted that I was driving a rag top as it felt more coupe like.I'm pleasantly surprised with the quality of the ride although firm I expected
it to be a lot harsher with the big wheels fitted, all in all I'm quietly impressed which to be honest is a relief as I do like my Aston's.

That said the switch gear in an Aston is very poor in comparison to the little Porsche and in no way can they offer me something as
sublime as this PDK gearbox which is just endearing it self to me more and more,it really has got all the bases covered IMO.

Now I'm no Chris Harris but I think this is a bloody good car and it will suit the purpose I intend to use it for and should prove to be a car that I
can evolve into.

So my early thoughts are positive because trust me this purchase was very much Brain over Heart but I think my final choice will prove a winner.

And finally my youngest daughter, "the Hairdresser" has already said she'll have it to go mobile when I get cheesed off with it......as if....
so thats got all the angles covered.
Glad you are enjoying it but I would ponder upon anyones state of mind if they did not like the 981.

However like you - I love Aston's for the sheer aesthetics from the outside but internally I feel them to be very dated and I hate to say it but the gearbox in my opinion is very very clunky. I demo'd a few last year as was really trying to convince myself to buy one but no matter what my heart was saying it didnt make any sense spending that amount and like you have mentioned earlier you cannot really have it to enjoy without the worry. Also as i was demo'ing the Astons I saw about 5 broken down on the side of the motorway within a couple of months which left me pondering whether to spend all that money on a car to be let down on the only day I get to drive it.

Its my 40th this year tho so you never know mrs Lumpy may just surprise me with an Aston Supercar experience week.

Hi Pete,

Mines a 3.4 so I'm really pleased with my return and before Lumpy arrives on the scene I really haven't been driving like Miss Daisy honestly.

More to the point I'm getting really nervous about these noises and messages that are inconsistently getting flashed up so I'll be on to Martin
in the morning with my latest tale of woe phone.

What with starting off with the oil leakage problem and now this I must admit to be getting a little bit deflated with the whole thing and I'm
beginning to wonder whether its worth the garage room sadly headache.

Washed it today to remove my extensive Highland fly collection only to reveal a fine collection of stone chips just to put the top hat on it irked.
Hi Ed,

I'm here. lol

I think a stern word in the OPC's ear is needed.

Took mine down to Monaco for the GP at the weekend and can honestly say fuel consumption is incredible on the long motorway runs and the car did everything I needed it to do.

Loads of luggage space - Great fuel consumption - Sounded amazing in the tunnels - Down shifting whilst speeding down the Avenue d'ostende got everybodys attention - And not to mention being bowed down to by an R8 and a Gumball Aventador on the French roads was something else (Mind you I was getting up to 175mph on some parts when the mood took me).

Still love the car - It may be (dont speak too soon) that I have got a good one as you have not had the best start with yours.

Give the OPC a round of tablets and get them to sort it out pronto.

I am likely to order a Boxster S for delivery early 2014. Can anybody help with likely running costs? I have heard some horror stories re services and tyres.
It's the classic - if you have to ask .... rolleyes

They're not so bad as it only needs servicing every 2 years or 20,000 miles and then it's likely to be circa £500 for a minor service and £700 for a major one - with brake fluid changes and aircon recharges being another £150 each and needing to be done every 2 years.

Tyres are rather dependent on how you drive; but I'll be thrilled if I get 6,000 miles out of a pair of rears and 10,000 miles out of a pair of fronts - but if you go for the 20" wheels - lets call it £200 fitted for each of the fronts and £275 for each of the rears - or £950 per set, fitted!

HTH! biggrin
I have 10'000 on the clock now and rears still have about 2000 left on them - I am gob smacked as I only thought I would get 6-8000 maximum - looks like I have been driving it too careful.

Absolutely brilliant car and I have had no problems with mine whatsoever - However I shall be selling it as I have to make room for the new GT3 me thinks.

Stew,

Just popped in from the Aston Forum as I've been pittlin' about on that organising an Event as I've returned to the fold so to speak with another new Aston, saw your post and thought ahhahehe.

Keep an eye on my Burghley event it might make for a nice day out for you and Mrs Lumpy, if you can stomach the brand of coarse.

Cheers Ed.
Looks good ED,

I will have to let you know as it would be a good one however next year we are going to be uber busy and so I cannot really commit to anything as yet except of course the Monaco GP as we had an absolute blast this year.

Very similar to my spec Noel - only 4 things I would definitely say I couldnt live without - Boxter S, Sports Exhaust, Full leather Dash, PDK.
I have my deposit on a GT3 but I can certainly say I will miss her once she's gone and after all the recent GT3 issues not really sure if I am doing the right thing.

Moogs right on the steering wheel - I forgot that is a must in my opinion. As for his Greys a boring colour statement - I feel it's a colour that exudes class lol
