Porsche - an adverse reaction?
Discussion
Funny, I'm driving my 1969 911 and all I get is positive reactions - absolutely loving it...
Sitting at some traffic lights on a roundabout the other day, horn bips, and look to my left to see mature couple in an S-Class merc giving me thumbs up...
Then, the other extreme - came out of a carpark at a bowling alley in Bristol one saturday afternoon. Just about to get in, when 2 lads jump out of a max powered astra, baseball caps on and spliff in hand to say "mate, that is just beautiful, absolute class" and proceed to chat for 5 minutes about the engine, get me to start it up etc.
Always get smiles and nods from other drivers whereever I go - just love the fact it appeals to everyone!
I can only imagine what reaction I'd get from my locals if I parked a new 911 on my street in Brixton...

I say if the jail fodder, peasant classes are jealous then they should be.
Whats the world coming to when the well to do are looked down upon whilst the likes of gardeners, cooks and decorators all becoming TV presenters - its like the servants are taking over....
in all seriousness if you are driving a Porsche or a Ferrari then you need to drive with manners. If you cut people up, cut past people then you will elicit a suitable response from the mondeo classes

Ever since seeing the advert in Evo for their trackdays with the silver 993 resplendent with Halfords fluffy dice hanging from the rear view mirror, I realised I had to have the dice.
Of course, the types that would normally spit with jealousy at a 993 now see the dice and realise I'm taking the piss - and takes the edge off their attitude.
Fluffy dice is the way to go!!!!

I spend 6 months of my time on the continent. I have no problems with vandalism, aggressive driving, being let out of junctions...........and I even get quite a few smiles.
In the UK I cover about 500 miles in the colder 6 months. Can't be ars*d with the attitude of other drivers, police and stupid road laws.
I also ride a big bike. In the UK it's used to get to the tunnel and backl twice a year. 98% of the mileage is on the continent where it's bliss in comparison.
Can't just be me thinking this as I read here.
The UK really has lost the plot on tolerance for others.

I never had any problems with aggressive drivers in my 944 Turbo but when I bought an '89 911 3.2 in Guards Red, I did find it harder getting out of junctions and the car was received generally in a negative way.
I recently bought a Mk1 996 GT3 (in Speed Yellow) and the reaction of other drivers couldn't be more different.
I find I get let into traffic queues more often and I even had a guy in a White Van comment ' blinding motor mate' when I was filling up the other day.

I was in a small village near our house tonight trying to cross the road with my 3 year old, when a twat in a silver 996 convertable decided to zoom out of a parking space with his foot flat on the floor and continue to accelerate flat out along the 30mph high street.
I shouted 'f**king twat' loud enough for him to hear, but no doubt he just thought I was jealous of his motor.
I think the point here is that if you have a decent car you should drive in a reasonable way or expect as least as much, if not more, abuse than you would normally suffer.

"what does that mean daddy??"
I think in the shock of almost being run over the words were missed.
Point was that no doubt he went home in the belief that somebody was jealous of his porsche.... missing the point somewhat...

To be honest, the 911 is at the very least, so psychologically ubiquitous that I'm not so sure people pay them that much attention.
This may be different in the old smoke where the desperate need to be seen in various states of bling raises the green eye quotient a little more than normal but...
There are so many unanodyne forms on the road these days and so many seriously quick cars for every man and his dog that motoring anonymity in a 911 doesn't feel that unusual to me.
Maybe it's just familiarity after a few years' use but it's an awfully long way from Ferrari or Lamborghini driving.
Yes, petrol station chinwags/remarks (positive!) are not unheard of - but then they are for the owners of Imprezzas, Frogeye Sprites, Wedges, Elises, etc, etc...there will always be a fellow appreciator of whatever your chosen mark is - the 911 is just too familiar to raise heartbeats anymore.
Of course, for the driver, nothing could be further from the truth!

In my experience, best reaction is from something exciting looking but fairly unknown/rare eg Noble or Holden. Worst is from something with an 'image'...Evo, Bentley, Red Ferrari.
Neverhad any major problems ina Porsche, but never had women falling over themselves either, which is the other thing that's supposed to happen.

Hmmm
Had E46 M3 and 996 Turbo down south (London/Midlands) and in the Highlands.
Down south I got stress from young, middle aged and even old in the M3.
In the turbo, people just got out of the way. Massive 'Moses effect'.
Up here, people smile and wave whatever you drive
My tip. Move.

Strange thing is since I have had the BM 530,I have found exactly the opposite... drivers of vans, lorries taxis etc to be extremly polite letting me out of junctions at the drop of a hat!
Can't comment either way when in the KN.
