964 RS at Auction

How sad that the only thing to talk about in relation to these wonderful old track day cars is "provenance" and future values . So glad I enjoyed mine when nobody cared and few were interested !
That was always Bill Taylor's view too, but even he had to stop racing his car when its value started to increase. I consider myself fortunate enough to have been there in the Giroflex days when characters like Bill and Chester Wedgwood raced 2.7s and when Neil Bainbridge, Bob Watson and John Greasley ran genuine 935s in the Porsche Open. nowadays you'll only see those cars sitting in Lee Maxted Page's barn or at the GFoS.I too owned a 964RS when 'nobody cared' and when the cogniescienti considered them too harsh for the road and a liability...but if I bought one now, it would be as an investment and thus I would want to buy the best...and pay the decent sum for that car.
[quote=h_]Its not all that bad. The Oulton park RS day always has plenty of 964 RS, there are several in the speed championship this year, and many are regularly used on trackdays. Whilst some are tucked up in garages, I don't think people have stopped using them.
...not like the 993RS.

Then said auction car must be a good buy for that series. The speed championship - is that run to a sprint format?

Hold on a moment......
I have the details, quoted from the certificate of authenticity. However, it is possible that a motor swap has taken place since the certificate was issued (seller didn´t supply issue date). The seller doesn´t have the car at his premises yet.
I shall chase this up tomorrow, and let you know.

Just read the report on this car, it confirms it has a M64/01 engine from a C2 and non RS gearbox but with a LSD, the engine number has been removed so the build type/year are unknown. Other negative points noted non magnesium wheels fitted, several repairs and various paintwork noted.
Sorry to say I told u so but I did!!I knew that car soon as I saw it

Good call, I cant see when the engine was replaced why the number would be removed, a stupid thing to do imo. It will not make any difference performance wise but together with a non standard g/box and wheels etc the value is thousands down on a similar milage car.
I recon the estimate of high 20's as already mentioned on this thread is the right price for that car. ras62 said:

Was talking to a friend at Silverstone yesterday, we were both 964RS owners, and very keen track day drivers back in the late nineties, we were trying to remember just how many RS's were crashed in those days. We couldn't remember but it was a quite a big number, we then went on to wonder how many of the "perfect" cars around now, we'd seen in the Armco ? My own car most certainly has been in contact with the barriers, I did it myself, but I paid the price and had the very best repairs I could have, with all new panels installed by what I believe to be a very high quality repairer, almost a decade ago. So really the question is, is it better to have a "hushed-up" shunted car, or to be completely upfront, and understand what you are buying ? The trouble is, it's now all about "provenance", I'd guess that there are a lot of people with great RS's that have a bit more provenance than they think .

the lesser spotted 964rs with power steering?one day mate, one day i'd love that car in my garage
(cragswinter from carlisle)
Mine is the lesser spotted left hand drive RS with power steering !
I admit to being influenced by you knowledgeable RS owners, I'm mending my ways, my car is currently at 9M, being converted back to a more standard single throttle arrangement, "sports cams" instead of "race cams", and my old standard exhaust system with it's re-packable Techcraft silencer. So open the engine cover and it will look standard. Hope you approve, as this is not a low cost option ?
