What child seats for a 911 - Help please!

I'm also looking for a child seat for the back of my 996 for our 8 month old. I read that the Max Cosi Tobi sits quite high up (the plastic base is tall and the design is to allow children to see out f windows).
Does that not make it too tall for the back?
I've got one in a 996 and it is a tight fit. When the top clamps for the seat belt are open then the one nearest the side window does touch the roof. It is a bit awkward to get in, but mine is an occasional weekend use as it spends most of the time in the missus' car so I put up with it. I think if you're moving seats around a lot, I'd pay attention to how easy it is to get in and out. Does that not make it too tall for the back?

Yes, it's a tight fit to get in and out, but plenty of room for the little chap, and it is very secure. We've got the luxury of another seat in the everyday car, so I just leave the Tobi in the Porsche.Pete
RobR: Where did you get to with the seats? I also have a 2005 997 C2S Cab and am considering putting my 2 1/2 year old twins in the back for pottering about town rather than taking the estate all the time. Sadly I'm 6'5" so legroom won't be great for one of them but I'd like to try as I know they'd love it, especially in this weather!
Thanks
Thanks
I have an 06 997 C4S - and a 3.5 and 7 year old.
I have a booster seat for the 3 year old (he's nearly 4) and my 7 year old just sits in the seat - it seems to fit perfectly.
we got it from Tesco ages ago and it looks like this http://www.tomthumbbabyequipmenthire.co.uk/britax-...
I took the lower back cushion out for the 3.5 year olds booster seat and it fits better, little bit tight to get the seatbelt into the clip but it's fine once in.
I'm pretty tall (ok, and wide too) - they have a reasonable amount of legroom - but prob not enough for > 2hr trips without complaints.
Here is a pic - drivers seat is in my normal driving position
also managed to get 3 bikes and 2 kids in it for the Surrey Supercycle event last weekend (Brompton in front boot and 2 x kids bikes (lightly disassembled) on passenger seat - much to the suprise of all the passers by in the car park

Hi,Thanks
Sorry for slow reply. Have just picked your message. Firstly mine is a hard top rather than a cab and I believe (rightly or wrongly) that the rear of the cab seats are angled very slightly forwards in comparison. Therefore my own experience is pointed at the hard top and you should double-check they still work in the cab. However Maxi Cosi was the way to go. Tobi for forward-facing babies in a 3 point harness and the Rodi (air protect) which sits neatly on the rear seat and makes use of the conventional seat belt for the child's security.
Our kids are now 2.3 and 4 years old. My daughter was squashed in the Tobi sat behind me (the Tobi sits a long way forward on the rear seat) and I am not blessed with your height (at 5ft 9); so I moved her to the rear seat behind the passenger seat where there is scope to move the front passenger seat forward. The Rodi sits fine behind me and my four year old has ample leg room. It would be your call at 2.5 years whether your twins could manage OK in a Rodi as there is much less support for them than in a harness seat. Should be better within the year though!
Hope that helps. Let me know if you need any more info.
I use a Recaro Young Sport in the back of my 2002 C2 coupe. Wedges in nicely and secures very well, the only group 1/2/3 seat in Halfords that fitted! My son is almost 3 and we've had the seat for a year. I'm very strict on securing car seats and regularly check that they're in tight.

This is a dangerous thread for a man to find with twins due this week.
I have had sell one of my cars and buy one with 4 doors and a large boot (estate).........now I see there is hope.
Congrats on reaching the due date, that in itself is an achievement. You will need every inch of space that estate gives you, we got an A6 Avant and I'm not sure in the first 2 years we managed to close the load cover when travelling with the boys. Double buggies don't fold neatly. I have had sell one of my cars and buy one with 4 doors and a large boot (estate).........now I see there is hope.
Not to burst your bubble but I went to Mothercare and Halfords to try these seats out and in the cab the only one that I and/or the assistants could get to fit was a Maxi Cosi Rodi Air Protect Group 2/3 with a flexible back that used the seat belt to secure the boys. They're too young for seat belt securing so I'm waiting until next Summer when they're 3.5. A coupe would be a different matter though.

The top right hand corner as you look in at it fitted, does catch the roof and marks it, but if you securely it properly its rock solid and doesn't move.
Mine is permanently fitted as we have isofix in the other car and the 997 doesn't
The only problem as already discussed is, the recline isn't great and leg room for front seat passenger is greatly reduced.

This is SUPERB!! Ive been trawling these threads wondering if anyone has used the Recaro young sport as I have these in both my cars (now getting a 996.2 daily). Do you use a base on it to give it a bit more height (pretty sure I remember it being Isofix), or just clip it in like you would on any other conventional car?Happily enconsed!
My boy will be 2 in a few weeks and we are due another one in Aug. Evan went from the backward facing mama & pappas baby seat thing to the recaro. So fingers crossed this combo wont be a problem going forward?!
One very happy chappy tapping away on the keyboard right now.
Hi all,
It's nearly two years since I first addressed this issue and it causes me great amusement to think how many of us have had to think about solutioning a fix to such an important problem along the way! Pleased to see that it continues to be of interest / use... I'm not yet sure what I'm going to do once the kids legs get too long!!

This thread is highly amusing as I have been through all this myself with a 996.1 cab.
I guess everybody here with a 996 also had the headache of finding the metal "dongle" which deactivates the front airbag in a 996 if they were using a none-porsche branded seat? IIRC that porsche baby seat looked utter garbage compared to say a Britax.
Anyway if anybody is having the headache of finding that dongle then porscheshop sell them. I do often wonder when I read the old threads whether the enterprising chap who said he intended to start making them is now the guy who supplies porscheshop because he seemed to dissappear off the threads whilst everyone was badgering him about trialling them out and now they are readily available - maybe he made millions
For the record I used a maxi cosi carbiofix in the back, both directions. For the front I use a britax (but forget the model name) and a 25 quid metal dongle thing from porscheshop to deactivate the airbag.
As other people have pointed out the cab is probably harder to work with due to the seats tilting forward but what isn't mentioned is that with the cab when some git parks too close to you so you cannot open the door you can then open the roof with the remote and put the baby in from the top - this is whilst sitting my fat ass against the offending car door to annoy them and hoping the metal bits on my jeans might leave a slight impression

You can't on a 997, I'm afraid. You'll have to get the airbag deactivation switch fitted, which gives you a key switch in the passenger side of the dash, and if you really push the boat out, a warning llight on the centre console.
996s and 986s can have a bar fitted under the passenger seat, wired into the loom, which takes a seatbelt-type dongle to turn off the airbag, and it's this dongle that used to be hard to come by.

If anybody wants the dongle for a 996 though it's available here;
http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalog/porsche_baby...
Baby / Child Seat Belt Clip
Just shy of 20 quid and the bar will also need fitting for around £120 underneath the passenger seat but at least then you can use a variety of different car seats.

I made one of the clips with a plastic credit card sized Starbucks loyalty card and a pair of scissors, by copying the shape of the clip from a photo of one I found on the internet. Took two attempts before I got the right shape but works perfectly, at no cost. If anybody wants the dongle for a 996 though it's available here;

....having said that I keep forgetting to remove the dongle when an adult sits in that seat and the child seat is moved to the back - oops
