What child seats for a 911 - Help please!
Discussion
Been following this topic with keen interest as got a wee nipper on the way and will be keeping the Porsche 😎
So doing various bits of research I think I have got my list sorted for my 996 turbo. Here it is:
Baby seat 0-6 months - maxi cosi pebble
Baby seat six months onwards - recaro young seat
Buggy for boot - Quinny zapp
Now the Quincy Zapp is for six months onwards however spotted that the maxi cosi fits to the Quinny zapp so between 0-6 months baby will be kept in maxi cosi and this bolts straight into the Quinny.
I think that has all angles covered besides I won't be going on numerous trips with baby in the Porsche just the odd place at the weekend.
Does my list sound about right? Have I missed anything?

You'll need one of these to attach the pebble to the zapp.

And it's well worth bolting in an airbag widget, then you can put the nipper in front when required.

Could not recommend the BeSafe IZI highly enough. Very solidly built, rock solid installation, no buckle crunch. Fits best with the rear seats removed.

+1 to being able to put the baby in the front, I found the back of the cab was too small after a short while and driving around with the front-passenger seat set all the way forward kind of obscures your vision slightly! http://www.kiddies24.de/shop/en/Strollers-Carriers...

Fine for short trips, but not sure you can keep the little one in a car seat for more than two hours at a time which may be worth bearing in mind. I think that's the case at least. So doing various bits of research I think I have got my list sorted for my 996 turbo. Here it is:

When you end up putting them in the front;
1) Take their shoes off especially if they are muddy, otherwise they wreck your dash if they manage to reach it on full stretch!
2) Dont insert charger in the cigarette lighter whilst they are in the front as a quick downwards heel kick will usually destroy it

Best bet might be to take out both the cushions on the back seat (need to unscrew the top one though) then pop down to Mothercare and try out a multitude of seats. The one near me (Leeds) has a couple of extra wide baby seat fitting car spaces right outside the entrance and they were very happy to help test seats out.
This is assuming you are just looking for a seat that definitely fits as opposed to picking one up on the cheap?

Trial fitted a maxi cosi Cabriofix (i.e. for newborns) in the back of my car today (997.1 GT3 with folding bucket seats). Family trips don't have to be deferred until the baby is forward facing! The passenger seat is a fair way forward but I was able to sit in it, just. It should be fine for the other half.
Also fitted is a maxi cosi Rodi for a 3+ year-old (15kg+ I think).
It will be a bit more tricky getting the Cabriofix in when it actually contains a baby.

Morning all,
just been looking at those front seat dongles. by the looks of it you need the £120 bar with the socket on and then use the metal dongle on the end which seems to make the electrical cut out for the Airbag...............
as the website says to use the metal clip with the deactivation device.
So £140 to disable the airbag - has anyone tried disabling it via VAG COM? How I do it on my Audi.
worried if people are making plastic clips and hoping its disabled as theres no way to test unless hitting the front of the car

I've got a 996 turbo with hard backed seats so slightly comparable to you. I've found it's al to do with the angle of car seat trying to get it in the passenger side. It does mean the passenger seat is as far forward as possible so it's a bit of an arse at junctions but oh well. Plus side is I can drive the Porsche rather than wife's fiesta and also as my seat is as far back as possible I can see little one with a bit of twisting. As to forward facing I would have thought all of them mean little heads slump forward or are they tilted back like an adults seat?

I think the only way of "knowing" if the plastic clips are working is pretty much the same as when using the metal clip (Which I have) - when you turn on the ignition the airbag sign flashes for about 15 seconds to indicate that it has been disabled. I guess this is the same indicator one has to go by whether using a cut-off switch or plastic / cardboard / metal dongle but in every case you still wouldn't know until you pranged the car anywayjust been looking at those front seat dongles. by the looks of it you need the £120 bar with the socket on and then use the metal dongle on the end which seems to make the electrical cut out for the Airbag...............

Personally though I would much rather go with the Bar plus dongle which is the (almost) official method than tinkering with the system!

A lot of the forward facing seats can be reclined to help avoid their heads lolling fowards. My 4 year old tends to go for the Homer-Simpson-drooling look when sleeping in the seat on the left. mikey P 500 said:
Good thread but most of the seats mentioned are no longer current. Looking for something that would be a group 1 seat (3yr old) still to small for seat belt type booster seat, and ideally situated behind driver (as have a 6yr old for other back seat in booster type seat).
The halfords essentials 123 is still current and is what I have behind my drivers seat for my eldest to sit in. He`s used it since he was 2. Now he is 4 he can use the same seat using the cars seat belt rather than the harness which he used when younger.Im about to go and buy another one for my 18month old lad whose outgrown his old seat.
There has been a great thread just the other week:

And one more that has been discussed also last week...
mods, can't you merge these and make a sticky?? Since this seems to be a subject that pops up so frequently.

Have you tried a Maxi-Cosi Tobi? This worked for me and others in the thread and I believe is still available (check the place that is never knowingly under sold online)! Will do to around aged 4. Dimensions may have changed slightly over time. It was snug to fit however once in it was rock solid and didn't wobble or need adjustment other than periodic checking.
Maxi Cosi Rodi is the next size up and again fits very well (providing dimensions haven't changed in the past two years).
Good luck and let me know if you need more detail

Fwiw I've got both of them in my 996 turbo. Both fit wellish, but don't be taking any tall passengers .Maxi Cosi Rodi is the next size up and again fits very well (providing dimensions haven't changed in the past two years).
