I did say there are at least two iterations of the rear. The car I saw had the edges of the rear hatch sweep down to the corners of the number plate recess which is still there. My best guess is that that version of the rear accomodates the fixed rear spoiler variants.
I did ponder at the time how a moveable spoiler could be incorporated into that, looks like the basic variants just copy the boxster.
I am quite relieved they stuck with the same design as the Boxster. I think this car looks gorgeous...best looking car in the Porsche range.I did ponder at the time how a moveable spoiler could be incorporated into that, looks like the basic variants just copy the boxster.

So what you really mean is that if you tick almost every single option you can spec. a £70k Cayman. It was always the way with Porsche but IMO it shows the point of the Cayman/Boxster completely missed.
When I ordered a Cayman it had £3k of options and there was nothing I would have added with the benefit of hindsight. http://thecarlistblog.blogspot.co.uk/2006/12/joy-o...

I agree. Both my 987's were lightly spec'd. I paid around £40K for them and got £18K back after 80k miles/3 years..... I am happy with that. When I ordered a Cayman it had £3k of options and there was nothing I would have added with the benefit of hindsight. http://thecarlistblog.blogspot.co.uk/2006/12/joy-o...

It's the leg room and rake of the seat that was just about ok'ish in the 987, but is now perfect in the 981. I agree, I don't want to sit in a bus! But the 981 feels more like a 997 in terms of leg room. I am 6ft 2", so if you are a little chap, you probably wouldn't have noticed it.P40L VX said:
I have to say I'm slightly disappointed. It could be down to the rubbish wheels, massive arch gap and bland colour. Ultimately if it's that boring in the flesh I'll be keeping my CR for some time to come.
Have to agree with you there, certainly doesn't look very good in those pictures, but obviously in the flesh, maybe different. In any case, can't see myself swapping the excellent CR for it; just can't see the benefit?!?!iandews said:

Yes, but there is still that one in million chance that it has +350bhp engine anonymous said:

I am trying to say there is nothing really wrong with the current car. And if there is new model, it should be something new. I think Cayman is the best sports car you can buy from below 400bhp market.Lighter version with narrow wheels would certainly do the trick!
But I still think that cayman can take much more power than Porsche gives it.

I think that's a given. However, they will never do that as it will then be a better all round proposition than the 991 and they aren't going to devalue their cash cow. Edited by Raitzi on Monday 19th November 18:28
Latest pictures on Car magazine website look very good.

These are the least disguised images I have seen ahead of the launch in L.A. next Friday.
It does look more '911 like' with the hatch pushed further back.
Obviously it will indoubtable be a little quicker than a Boxster and a little slower than a 991.

Are we expecting to see the current Cayman to take hit in terms of second hand price value?
Im new into porsches and potential ownership...but I guess at the lower end of the market £17k it wont make much difference with the new model out?
Also do the cayman have their own unique number 987 etc?

The Gen II Cayman prices have held up pretty well in the last 12 months, possibly because they stopped making them in February I believe.Im new into porsches and potential ownership...but I guess at the lower end of the market £17k it wont make much difference with the new model out?

Cayman and Boxster share the same floorpan and model designation. The first Boxsters were 986. The Cayman and later Boxsters were 987 Gen I and Gen II. The latest Boxster and soon to be introduced Cayman are 981.
They pretty much follow the 911 numbers minus 10 i.e 986 and 996, 987 and 997 etc.
