you should consider the non-mentioned option... a 996tt x50. turbo s has ceramac brakes which are in my opinion a big faux pas. gt2 is a car to take you to an early grave and gt3rs (although not driven one myself) is just not an every day car however you look at it....

you can get a good x50 for around 75k too and save yourself 10k... i took out a fully loaded 2002 x50 with 8k miles the other week. very quick etc etc, but i stuck with my c4s as i'm growing quite fond of the vulgarity of the sports exhaust sound. the extra few tenths of a second 0-60 or 50 - 70 don't seem worth it to me.

let's face it too, these turbo cars are ever so slightly chav-esque in a football player, live in a mock tudor mansion with a blonde girlfriend with an alcohol problem type way... sounds like the lifestyle for me!

It's got to be rear wheel drive only for me, no turbo either so the GT3RS.

Still rather have a 993RS though, very rare, much better built and sounds lovely.

I have a 993TT with factory upgrade (430bhp) and it is my one and only car. It does everything I want. But even it has to treated with a little respect by way of applying the right foot too quickly in the wet (although it is easy enough to keep control).
Although I am a total 911 fan and have massive respect for a GT2, I think it would be an absolute monster to drive every day and impossible to drive quickly and safely in the wet in MOST people's hands.
Also, I have owned several 911's over the years including early 911E with short wheelbase and a 3.3 Turbo. These were difficult enough to handle in their day.
Having bought the video of Uwe Alzen at the ring in a 700 bhp version of the GT2I am in awe at his capabilities.

It's a 4WD Turbo BTW.

Regarding the GT2 - It's the driver who controls the pedals, therefore the car itself is not lethal or a widow maker.

I would be happy to drive one round all the time, even in the winter. I would think ground clearance would cause more problems than no traction control!

Fair play to Porsche for producing such a car and not putting "gay" stability and traction nonsense on it!

Dave, the reason the car is a widow maker is because many of the people who buy them (particularly in the States) do not have the skill, talent or experience to drive them safely in all weather conditions. This is what makes it a so called widow maker.

The handling on all cars is not created equal, and to say it's all to do with the driver is misleading. I can guarantee that I am more likely to catch a small slide in a Boxster S in the wet than a 964RS. Same driver, same skill (or lack of ), different outcome.

And even if you have the necessary skill, it's not to say it's a quick or effective machine in the wet. How much traction does a GT2 have compared to a 996tt when it gets slippery? I would guess that even Walter Rohrl goes quicker in the wet in a 996tt. That is why a GT2 is a poor everyday car compared to the 996tt.

Cheers
Dom

I guess there are a few people who just think "I want the fastest 911 available" and go for a GT2.

But for most of us "drivers" its the enjoyment of taming the beast that excites me!

Anyway, I would buy a GT3 RS and a Fiesta!

While the 996 Turbo is a fantastic car, it just does not get me excited like a GT3RS does!

I can understand all your reasons for each, but I think, personally, I'd still be tempted by the GT2.

To me, having a car that demands 100% attention at all time, is half of the appeal. Although it would be nice to have a TT in the garage for when you woke up in the morning with a hangover

Damn right, on both counts!

That is why I 'have' a 964RS and a slushomatic Merc, LOL It'll be a while before I master the RS, that's for sure

Fair play to GT2 drivers tho'. Awesome machine. Just not the answer to the original question IMO.

what and a C4S isn't? I thought a C4S had the short skirt, too much make-up and high (white) heels but without false la las! (i.e. no turbo)

no, you are clearly mistaken. must be the polluted air around the north end road that is clouding your better judgement and understanding of such matters. a turbo is burberry on wheels.

a normally aspirated 911 in any guise is a refined and sophistacted example of automotive excellence, typically driven by fine outstanding citizens who do not need performance enhancers of any form to prove their male supremacy and dominance over the weaker, intelectually inferior underclass masses that pollute this Jerusalem.

here endeth the rant.

hummm.... so what is refined about taking a C4 and trying to make it look like a turbo (i.e. the C4S)? ... that's like not just a burberry base-ball cap but a fake burberry base-ball cap!! (or indeed fake Louis Vuitton hand-bag for the white stiletto'd dolly in the passenger seat)

ps ... north end road doesn't qualify as fulham

i see it not as refinement, more as enhancement and improvement.

if you start with a burberry cap and remove the burberry, you instantly have a better product! QED!!

and not a white stilleto in sight!!!

and on the subject of north end road, what part of london then is the bit of the north end road that lies between 'FULHAM' Broadway and Lillie Road? You know - the bit with all the tramps on the church benches drinking Tenants at some ungodly hour of the morning...

Yep - GT2 is OK, but not exciting enough, so I got the Ruf 550bhp/580 torque engine. Thats helped liven it up a little (as have the carbon panels).

Now it needs Magnesium wheels and some nitrous........

Nitrous eh?? Please forgive me for suggesting that perhaps laughing gas is a tad unnecessary on such a beast.... but hey, too much is never enough

....then again - surely said engine would need so much NOS that the bottle would weigh a ton?? Not really in the spirit of carbon panels and mag wheels...

NOS bottles are available in Carbon.........

But seriously though, no I wouldn't desecrate a Ruf GT2 with NOS.
