I know this has prob been asked loads but..Is it worth joining PCGB?

Seems it costs £49 plus £10 joining fee (whats that for?!). Also seems alot dearer than other clubs?

Thanks

Saves me 10% on my servicing costs at the local OPC. Also a good magazine every month.

bugger - do all get 10% off - I've been member for years (since first Porker) and never asked discount!!

Worth the fee (IMO) - as Dazren says - good magazine!

Yeah, have been sent 2 copies by friends in the past and it seems good.
Was just unsure of paying £59 for a monthly mag for a year as I aint got a porker yet to get the 10% discount - so that wouldnt be any good to me

Read it in the PCGB magazine once. Asked next time I was at the dealership about it and got the nod, from then on I've been keen on getting my 10% off. Makes a big difference when doing full services or new discs and pads. More than covers the subscription.

Of course one or two people may view me as a cheapskate but they are hardly likely to say it to my face.

There are members cars for sale to give you an idea on prices also.
If you are concerned about spending £59 ayear on a monthly mag and other benefits...Porsche ownership may not be for you.
This is one of the better deals

PCGB is the first thing you should do if you are thinking about buying a Porsche.

It connects you to an amount of other enthusiasts and gives you a good feel for prices (if a little inflated in Trading Post some might add)

Through PP magazine you can get yourself to regional gatherings and look at the standards of certain vehicles and talk to owners of particular examples.

The 10% is good...But if you dont ask you dont get!

In summary, the best way for the Porschisti to spend 50 notes.

Mind you I can’t for the life of me get their bleedin web site to work.

With discounts on servicing etc. you really don’t have to do to much to cover it and if like me you spend 3 or 4 quid a month on other Porsche mags the club one which drops through my letter box each month looks particularly good value.

Yeah, I think I will join, I did like the mag when I'd seen it but never got round to joining. Thanks for the help!

Cheapskate!

Some dealers are better than others in that some will volunteer the discount, others have to be beaten to within an inch of their lives before you get it.

Case in point: Merlin Cardiff were always reluctant to offer anything, but when the dealership was taken over by Lovetts it was 'Are you a PCGB member sir? - Would you like to take advantage of you 10% discount sir?"

I'm a member.

The 10% discount deal is very attractive and works well.

But personally I find the magazine a bit dull. The classifieds are full of overpriced used cars, and there are not enough tests of Porsches or interesting articles IMO.

There are also far too many pictures of middle aged people standing around, and not enough pictures of Porsches on the move.

Sometimes the magazine looks like a circular for the local round table or Lions club ! Needs more cars....

It certainly is a bit of a shocker in this regard: I've rarely come across a more self-congratulatory publication but it could be worse...

After all, so many car manufacturers will send customers (or indeed, ex-customers of their brand) the most appallingly fatuous glossies, featuring inane articles that pretty much pull themselves off to the unsurpassed aesthetic rapture of the much lamented, 1932 Bacchaus Schneidelhorn outdoor water closet, then to fawn pitifully to the latest chef celeb take on the humble Spam fritteur with marmalade di ostrich dump.

It's all a bit like 'Cheshire Life' on speed and there's no way Peter Wheeler would ever have even considered such vapid lunacy.

I'd certainly subscribe.

Agree on the manufacturers mags - they're truly awful. The Porsche one is fingers-down-your-throat gut wrenchingly yucky (can you tell I'm not a fan?), copious pictures of Herr Wiedeking shaking hands with bloody everybody, and vacuous interviews and articles about driving Pork in funny places. For example, Cayenne's traction control is really really good, so we drove one in the Arctic Circle to see if it was much cop. Here we met Albert the Eskimo whos had a 911 for donkeys years and it still looks new blah blah blah.

You get the idea.

The worst has to be the Mercedes ones though - they're just patronising. I sent one back once with a piece of paper that said "Stop sending me this shiny toilet paper", now it arrives addressed to Mrs T - so I don't notice. Cunning so-and-so's.

Avoid. Its like a manufacturer-centric issue of Car. But worse.

After many years of pedalling pork, with PCGB membership alongside, I can't disagree with what's been said. Only thing I'd add is that there are some excellent aftermarket suppliers, independent service providers and tweakers of everything whose adverts can make up for the pricey cars and sometimes eight tenths editorial. Get dates from the mag and go to some of the meets and track days to talk to folk who buy, drive and modify the cars and have knowledge about the marque - and about those advertisers.

Out of interest, has anyone managed to get the 10% discount at AFN Reading?

I do know quite a few from PCGB, from the registers, and know quite alot of people with Porsches. Just thought it may be an idea to join and get PP as I'm getting more and more of an enthusiast.

And after I had driven a Cayenne Turbo a few weeks back, that was it, I'm officially addicted and maybe looking for a 944 turbo track car (whilst saving for the Cayenne turbo or GT3 of course!)!!

Solihull and Sutton Coldfield OPC's both give 10% discount to PCGB members. Though you do have to beat it out of them sometimes which is always fun...

OK Caye_nne, if you know quite a few owners from PCGB registers and are still interested then it's probably time to join up, my point was about the folk in there who wear the cars rather than drive them. The mag and the discount are worth the sub.
