I am intrested, thats why i posted in the first place the power to weight ratio has increased with the 996/997.what i mean is i would rather have a lighter car with less power than a heavy car with more power which is why i'm such a fan of elise's.I thought the weight diffrence was larger that it is

we need to ensure as many people as possble are deterred away from the 997 and are shown the light on 996's, thus keeping 996 prices artificially high for as long as possible.... i am growing weary of depreciation!

And I am on the other side of the fence!

Pikey (waiting for 996 prices to drop low enough for him to afford one!)

Talking about the 997 I was just wonderering about the new DSG gearbox, that is rumoured to be arriving next year.
I have never been a fan of the Tiptronic system as you loose a lot of the control & inter-action you get with a manual box, but when the the new system is launched (supposedly similar to Audi's clever two clutch paddle control of a "manual" gearbox) it could offer the best of both worlds.
Let's be honest the manual gearbox/clutch can be a pain in stop start traffic & where you need light throttle inputs. Plus this system is supposed to change gear instantly, aiding maximum performance & help match revs on down changes.

Any thoughts on this from prospective 997 buyers, manual, DSG, Tip, a 997TT with the new gear-box..tasty

Some great info on the 997 C2 and C2S from the time of launch, especially for people wanting to know more information on the differences, what options came as standard and price of popular options too! Worth making a "sticky"?

Its a shame the weight is increasing i can't help thinking that its going the way of the VW golf each new car model appeals to me even less. The 993 is still the best of the lot IMHO

aha, one old cliche to rubbish...996 is lighter than 993 as is 997.

Yes, I know it's a very old thread but this made me laugh re: the 991.

Interesting read a few years on :-)

I didn't realise Porsche had improved cooling flow on the 997 S model over the non-S:

'More powerful coolant pump
Two extra fins on the uprated oil/water heater exchange'

Is there an approved used buying guide on the 997 C2S?

Heard from a friend the other day that his Dad sold a 996 C4S that he bought from new. It went for <£10k and had done nearly 200k miles. No engine rebuild or any major faults. So more reliable than a 964 then....
