thanks, Ive heard ford fiesta's are nice. Perhaps one of those would suffice!!
Got a Tdci one of those as well ... Errr not quite in the same league as R8 or 991 though. It does 60mpg that about it in the man maths steaks. 991 is a game changer in IMHO.Every four years, I have the same dilemma over choosing my special weekend car. Test drives never give the whole story. The last two occasions have resulted in me hiring, borrowing etc the cars on my top five list for a day each (250 miles) over a week. On paper the Aston Martin is always where my heart is until I've driven them, got the family to prod and poke them etc. The 997.1 missed out the first time because of the tiptronic but the 997.2 with Pdk was easily the best for me. The practicality means I do use it most weekends and can put two bikes on the roof for shiny ride in the country.
Well its all over. New titanium grey r8 v8 special edition arriving on Tuesday. Having now had a cayman s and 2 911's it was time for a change. The 991 is a truly fantastic car and if i was going to use my car as a daily driver it would have had no competition what so ever. The R8 is totally impractical, but im not using it to go to Europe, or take the family away in, so that really didnt play a part in my decision. Ferrari/lambo repair bills scare me too much to go down that route. All of this, coupled with an excellent discount and a pleasurable buying experience made my mind up. Still according to my wife, it will only last 6 months "like the last one you bought" so i can always head back to Dick lovetts and poke around the 991 again. Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated.

Great choice, you won't regret it. Truly amazing cars. I find the whole 'they aren't good to drive' stuff nonsense, incredible machines.
I disagree with impracticality as well. I used both of mine all year round.
There's some real ignorance demonstrated here I'm afraid. It's quite true to say most fast Audis have lacked real driver appeal. Fast, beautifully made and good to look at certainly but not involving drivers tools. The B7 RS4 apart, the rest are a bit leaden. The R8 has NEVER been like that. A proper bespoke aluminium space frame developed for the car, all weight concentrated within the wheelbase and mounted low. Its one of the greats.I disagree with impracticality as well. I used both of mine all year round.
Compared to a 997 (Not so much a 991) its a bit wide and it doesn't have the space of a 911 but it looks like a proper exotic rather than a Boxster.
