03 Boxster S Check engine light
Discussion
Just thought I’d give you an update…..
Thank you Pope for all your help.…..DME upgrade carried out and I have now done approx. 250 miles in the last couple of weeks and the light hasn’t come back on!!
So looks like I replaced both sensors and probably didn't need to....hey, but at least I haven't shelled out on a new cat!! :-)

Sorry, another resurrection of this thread, probably one for Pope!
I've just bought a 2003 986 and this morning the CEL came on (Car running fine). Our in-house mechanic pulled the code for me which was P2098. I wonder if this would fit with Pope's diagnosis? I think the car has been doing a lot of short journeys recently with it's previous owner, and I've just done 300 fairly quick motorway miles in two days. Might that be relevant?
Thanks in advance,
J

>>2004 cars didn't suffer the map anomaly like the 2003 cars; but the easy way to check is the RKAT values - they start at 0.00; if they increase in a positive direction an adaption is being made to richen the mixture; negative adaption reduces fuelling, weakening the mixture. The erroneous map placed the RKAT values at 3.00% meaning a very small window until CEL (threshold is +/-4.50%).

I have a 2004 Boxter S which suffers from the CEL coming on. So far all 4 O2 sensors have been changed and now they talk about both Cat's.
The light comes on while driving steady speed, highway or motorway.
I will ask about the RKAT values, but what could cause them to end outside the +-4.5% interval ?
Thanks for your insights !

Ps. It has run 110.000 miles only using 98-100 Octane fuel.
