As they say. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I don't find the narrow bodied 993 a particularly good looking 911. Take a narrow bodied 964 running RS ride height, 17" cup 1's and teardrop mirrors it knocks it into a cocked hat. The 993 C2S and C4S IMO opinion look better with their turbo haunches.
Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.

I dislike the headlights on a 964, and especially the Cup 1 wheels. The C2S and C4S look too bloated for their size.

Who really gives a fck, posts like this just drag on due to personal opinion/preferences
Fat arse, small arse, big fin/no fin speedlines/cups red/silver 964/993 air-cooled/water-cooled Turbo/NA

What a feckin drag.

I like them all for their own merits.
Bottom line is i like 911's.

Quite agree.

I've never understood why people constantly encourage other people to drive the same cars as themselves and join a little gang, and then go on to make nasty remarks about other models and marques. Massive insecurity.

You can't blame 993 owners for being defensive as their car only got 4 stars in the recent EVO group test and the 996 got 5 wink

Unfortunately this is what seems to happen with threads like this, you can't disagree with anything lest everyone get defensive and start slapping up pictures of their cars.

I can appreciate them all, especially purple ones but that black Mk1 996 does look tempting at around £8k does it not?

Who gives a monkeys rub what Evo say? Back in the day the motoring press had you believe the Tipo 16V was the ultimate hot hatch, not an r5 Turbo or a 205 Gti, no, a Tipo. Who is chasing a mint Tipo, or even remembers it 20'years on. The motoring press all hammered the 964 RS when new as well, yet yet 20 years later they cream over it.

Fickle lot the motoring press. As said earlier, I like 911's.

My apologies. So is it OK for me to say I prefer the look of some 911's over other 911's. That some 911's look better in some colours that some 911's don't look so good in. That I don't like any water cooled 911's except for the water cooled 911's that were built solely for the purpose of racing said 911 and purely as a tool to do a job. There, that can't offend anyone smile

The early vanilla 996 is starting to look good & what a car for the money sub 5s to 60 and 174mph, and a major step up in handling at the time......

Completely agree. It excited me so much that I took delivery of a brand new car, black with black, back in 1999 on a Friday and it was such a joyeous experience I returned it to the dealer on Monday.

Typical Friday afternoon car then...........or maybe it was too quick for you Greame. wink

This and the boxster though turned the fortunes of Porsche around though whether you like them or not, very smart move by the bosses at the time and just look how successful the water-cooled 911 is nowadays the milestone for most prestigious sports car manufacturers.

Massive step change for the brand in the right direction.
Fantastic write ups at the time and still a great car, big step up from its predecessor and a total unsung hero in Porsche history, give me a 10k 996 over an 18-20k 993 anyday of the week.

The value's will rise as they get rarer.
Like all modern day car manufacturing, "lets build thousands of em" so supply and demand is never an issue and thus prices reflect this.

Me I would love 993 C2S Manual or 993 Turbo Manual
I think they look so pretty
But the interior does look a bit horrid and basic IMO like was an afterthought compared to modern 911s
The only 996 I like are 996.2 C2, 996.2 Targa, 996 Turbo, 996.2 GT3 all in Manual with sports exhaust and BOSE

I don't get comments like this. The interior is indeed simple and basic but cleverly designed, functional and well thought out. It's like a Becker radio or old Rolex.

Less is more.

Agree, bearing in mind this is a mid 90's design, the Ferrari 348/355 hardly had a nice interior. Personally i think the narrow dash and 5 individual dials still look great now, as you say, simple but effective.

Thats a great way of putting it. I like to think of the dash as individual and eccentric!

It still makes me smile and shake my head when i get in it. scratchchin

That looks like great value if it checks out. I wonder why the drivers seat has been removed though?

Those wheels look like the sport classic which were an option.
