Couldn’t agree more!
Wozy and I own two of the first ever UK registered 993s, I've had mine for 15-years this month!
I drive mine several times a week, mostly for pleasure, and I too have spent a fair amount on it over the years, including a relatively recent full body restoration. However, as I have no intention of selling it until I am too old and doddery to drive it with enthusiasm, I consider the annual cost of upkeep and maintenance a justifiable expense, and certainly it's a lot cheaper than any modern Pork PCP rental agreement!
Furthermore, during my long 993 ownership, having test driven lots of other motors, including most of the water cooled Pork range, plus Ferraris, Mercs, BMs, etc, I can honestly say that (for my budget) I‘ve not found anything yet that would provide me with the same mix of practicality and pleasure as my beloved 993 does.
PS: Regarding being part of the family, my grandkids love riding in the back, and one of them (10 years old now) recently asked if I would give it to her when I'm too ancient to drive, so that when she has kids of her own they in turn could ride in the back! Cheeky monkey!

You been over to the 911UK forum (993)? They have who has the oldest 993 thread going. There was a fella on there strutting his stuff that he had (reg dated the 17th Dec 93). He's been told his was a launch car by a previous owner.
I don't think he was that impressed that I added mine was older.
BTW, my build date was 28th October 1993 ..... so 20 at the end of this month.
Hi Warren - Earliest record I have for mine is 24/11/93 - the Porsche Immobiliser system fitted by Porsche Cars of Great Britain, Reading with their stamp, and then the delivery date in the service book is 07/12/93 also stamped PCGB Reading.
Haven't been on 911 UK yet but will do and report back!

I suppose the theme of the thread is not whether the 993 is good or crap but whether its worth more money than current and whether values will go to the moon.
If they were truly as good as described by their owners, they would be worth more than they currently are.
Are they a good financial investment? Well, if you stick £25k into a 993 in upgrades and servicing and its still only worth £25k then, it appears not.
Please, no more pics of polished 993s, lets see one being ragged within an inch of its life with mud and shoite sprayed up the sides.

For around 30k there is not a better car out there and I think people are starting to discover that now.
Exactly. You can get a good offer and enjoy the thought of all that money suddenly in your pocket, but where are you going to go from here and what are you going to buy next? Most of us went through this stage before we bought our 993s in the first place. I've had 3 now, every time promising myself eithet a 997, 996 Turbo, Cayman S when I sold up...but it never happened. Bought a bloody 993 again. Twice. Doh.Carl_Docklands said:

How do you view the Scom car? It's offered at £38k.If they were truly as good as described by their owners, they would be worth more than they currently are.

I have a strange taste in cars, especially 993's. If i were going to buy one, I would only buy one from JZM because I know they are completely anal about the quality of the 993's they have in.
You pay over the odds for the 993 cars at JZM but you get what you pay for.
I like this: http://www.jzmporsche.com/porsche-for-sale/911/993...
I almost bought this 993 C4S from JZM a while ago but decided to buy a 997 Turbo.
That purple 993 has to be one of the best Carreras in the UK.

Totally agree. I've bought 2 x 993 turbos from JZM in last few months and they are faultless. You pay over the odds for the 993 cars at JZM but you get what you pay for.

Properly prepared and any little niggle you find sorted without quibble.

I wouldn't call sticking £25K in upgrades into any car a 'financial investment'. However... if you spent 25K on improving a 993 and 25K on improving, say a 996 I'd bet that you'll see more of your 25K when you come to sell the 993 than the 996. If they were truly as good as described by their owners, they would be worth more than they currently are.

As for them being as good as we say they are.... yes they are. Should they be worth more than they are? Well off the top of my head I cant think of any other production model car that at 15+ years old with a 100K miles on it that can still command a £20K+ price. (apart from even older 911's of course) So I think they are worth plenty.

My question was nothing to do with financial investments, hardly any cars are that.If they were truly as good as described by their owners, they would be worth more than they currently are.

I was asking are they on the way up value wise. It looks like they are.
Unfortunately a lot of the value is in the mileage, a spotless 993 c2s with 95k on the clock in the right colours might fetch £35k, with 20k on the clock, add £10k+. I imagine a lot more 993s get mileage added to them compared to say a 355.
So in answer to you question, I think that low mileage examples of the 993 will go up in value, whereas higher mileage ones will soon plateau.

I am going to get shot for this but here goes. I am fortunate enough to own a few cars and I drive them all as often as I can. The other day I took the covers off my 993 C2 which is in top nick with lots of recent body and engine work etc and 95000 miles on the clock. The car had not run for 4 months and it started first time and felt as tight as the first day it was run. The car looks great, sounds wonderful and it just feels that the engine chassis and all systems meet perfectly. If I had a fast 5 mile run to do in the country lanes where I live, I would chose this car over any other I have. It just feels great. If I had to sell one of the cars I own - adios 997 Gen 2 Turbo - as great as it is to me it is just a car whereas the 993C2 feels part of the family. Sorry!!
Lovely stable. Enjoyed reading about them all.I think the low mileage 993's in good original condition can only keep going up in value.
This is a tiresome issue to owners- it's a rather forlorn situation to leave them in the garage
in order to avoid putting miles on the clock. When I bought mine it was supposed to be a 'special occasions' going out second car however it's so lovely to drive I find myself using it all the bloody time.....
It has been a shock how expensive they are to run and maintain-but I cherish the car so don't care.
Below is a pic of her during a jaunt to Zurich- in petrol money and depreciation/miles on the clock
the trip cost so much I maybe could have got a black cab to Switzerland instead!

The talk on this thread about low mileage cars is not applicable to the 90% of the 993s that are not.
Taking an average car; where will the 993 be in five or ten years time price wise compared to the 964 and 3.2. Will it be considered better and worth more or not? How about compared to the pre 74 cars currently riding high?
Ian.
