My TT also goes into the garage for a few days and they have given me a Boxster S Tiptronic as a replacement. Are these standard OPC courtsey cars?

Lee,

I bought the car about 2 weeks ago and it had a couple of tiny and I mean tiny marks on the wheels which have to taken out and a couple of stone chips on the front PU which also have to be fixed. The car is at AFN in Chiswick which has provided excellent service both pre and post sale. Where is yours?

Hi Lee !

You MADMAN !!!

Glad to hear you liked the S....Porsche chassis engineering at it's finest. Oh, and the engine's in the right place too

I'll be interested your comments apropos the Techart exhaust - the missus is after a new one for her Boxster S - I think we've narrowed it down to either Techart or Hayward & Scott.

I had a blast with a couple of Boxster S's in my Chimaera - they weren't that much slower (if at all) in a straight line and way way quicker round any corner.

Interesting - I agree with you completely.
I own one of each and the Chimaera 450 is definitely quicker in a straight line, although the Mrs can't lose me when I'm following in the Boxster S. In the twisties I've never had the confidence in the Chimaera to push it as hard as I'm willing to in the Porsche.

That said...a more talented driver might be able to make more use of the Chimaera than I can.

Love 'em both. But for different reasons.

Lee: I was at the PCGB Trackday July 12th. I could hold my own and keep up with flow - except when the TTs wanted to go by. WOW! They are QUICK!

Me too - now I've done the wheels, the exhaust is the next thing for me, I reckon....

..are we REALLY any better than, say, the top-end Max Power-ers who just do up cars that started off a bit cheaper????

As long as it improves performance, or *enhances* the look of a car, then fair play.

The problem with the Max Power lot is that they are so eager to rush into Ripspeed@Halfords that they forget that they could have a proper sports car for the money.

Scottster and I keep seeing two modified cars that make us laugh. One is a Fiesta that has a tasteful, but v expenbsive all over bodykit, with big wheels, clear lenses etc. Lovely paint job. The owner probably paid about 6-7k on doing it up. The second one is a beat up Nova with an untasteful bodykit that hasn't even been painted - it's still in GRP and filler - but I laugh harder at the posh Fiesta. Simply because matey in his Nova has done it all for 500 quid on a 500 quid car. He knows it's a turd, but he's having fun with it.

The guy with the Fiesta on the other hand, has spent 6 grand on doing up a 6 grand car. That's LHD 3.2 911 money, with 2k towards insurance for the year! Therefore the Fiesta driver is a nob. Simple.

Of course, they always bleat on about insurance - but my first car was a Caterham 7 when I was 23. It cost me 860 notes a year, no NCB, 3 points, ungaraged and unlimited mileage. So if you know your onions, you *can* drive around in sportscars on a budget when you're a nipper...

Agree, Domster.

The reason that Emma is looking at exhausts is simple: she has had the Boxster for about 4 months now and is looking for more poke. H & S say that their back box frees up the breathing a bit, and doubtless a free flow air folter will also make a difference.

The main reason we are looking at H & S is that the exhaust looks totally OEM - even down to the twin tailpipes. IMHO it would look shite with a baked bean tin pipe hanging out the back of it. Workmanship looks good too, although that 996TT TechArt exhaust you see a lot in 911&PW looks beautiful too.

And also - it makes good economic sense if you plan to keep the car - I had a Magnex SS on an old XR2 (first car) - good for performance, well put together and still looked brand new when I sold the car 3 years later.

I'm coming from a slightly shakey background on the Max Power thing (having owned far too many Golf GTis with loud exhausts and ground scraping suspension - one even had strobe lights underneath, tasteful )

I agree with Dom totally about £ for £ investment but my largest problem is not in what they do (that's simply a matter of taste), but the attitude problem that seems to come with it. ie: Now I've got my Scorpion exhaust and K&N filter it's turned my Saxo into a Ferrari/Porsche/TVR killer.

While I had boyish cars I always knew my place on the road and would never have 'hassled' a serious car as that would have been sad and disrespectful.

Having said that, I've halped a friend build two cars that have been cover cars of Revs and Fast Car magazines and we used to love destroying all the above cars - on the straight and round corners before anyone asks!
