I know you love saying you left a early deposit, but it means nothing, and no deposits were taken by Porsche until the car was launched and even then you had a 2 week window in case one was on holiday.

every one I know who is getting a car left deposits after launch. ie the proper Porsche way :-)
Maybe in your OPC it means nothing but in others they see a deposit as a confirmation that you really want the car, and that you are not just handing in a speculative LOI on multiple cars.

some people here left 5k at 3 OPC's means nothing still imo, said person is not buying 3 cars !

if the OPC then have 15 LOI then on launch day or even allocation day it's not hard to ring up and take a deposit to secure the slot is it ?
The only mess this time were OPC did not get the allocations they thought they would get so took to many deposits to soon, so imo take a deposit even later once allocation is known a few days later.

lets face it this way did not work very well did it ?

And I see now people are leaving 981 Spyder deposits already !!! so the same mess In a months time I guess.

I dont love saying anything, you're missing the point of the original post by a mile and making an irrelevant point to me .I know porsche didnt take the deposit, the dealer had it,some dealers treat them as a gesture of intent, the fact that your dealer didnt is irrelevant to me ,mine did.

the point I was making ,was that so far it seems the bulk of those who are getting cars either paid an early deposit with their loi like me and a few others on here,or gave very early loi's like you.It was in a response to someone suggesting the cars have all gone to massive porsche customers, because most of the people who are getting seem to have as I say have made early commitments of some form .

Conversation with OPC in 2013

Sales: If you leave a 10k deposit it will make you the second depositor and give you the strongest possible chance of getting an allocation.
Me: OK.

Conversation with OPC in 2014

Me: Given I'm 2nd in the list what are the chances of you getting more than one car?
Sales: You were never 2nd you were 8th and always have been. Placing a deposit has no affect on your position in the list. Once the car is announced officially we call up every LOI received in date order and ask them if they want to place a deposit.
Me: So why did you ask me for a deposit 6 months ago?
Sales: (no answer)

I'm not disputing that some people did what you did and got messed around, merely pointing out that most on here who think they are getting a car did place early loi's or deposits,it seems. It looks like it depends on which opc people were dealing with
As to how they have been treated .

Thanks. The point I was making is that you can bring all the business you want to a reputable OPC over many years, and follow their LOI / deposit process years before the car is released, but even after that you should expect to be misled and let down.

Some opc did not have 918 owners to contend with but some had 2 so if you were third on the list you got bumped down to fifth and no car!also some opc the busier ones had more interest so tougher getting a car against a quieter opc that more cayennes are sold and less sports/ gt cars.so it really was a lottery at the end of the day !

In the original shots I was a bit disappointed at how the wheels sat in the rear arches . These shots looks way better .

( no sneaky shots of the RS yet ?)

Just came home from the press launch. After seeing it in the flesh I have to say it's not exactly as pretty as I hoped it would be.

Things I don't like:
The wing ruins the visual balance and makes the car look to flamboyant (people will argue that's the whole point... I know), the side air intakes look a bit cheap and tacked on, because they are round in the back with a sharp edge at the front, the center caps of the wheels are far too big and makes them look a bit fisher-price (probably because the design had center locks in mind?) and I think the launch colour isn't doing it any favours.

Going to my dealer this week to ask about a potential wing-delete and what it would cost.

7:40 is "official" now and I'd say that's quite something for a manual! -10 sec for PDK?

The front PCCBs are so large you wouldn't believe it. There's barely any room with the 20" wheels. Thought about switching my spec to PCCB with replacement steel rotors but that would be too heavy.

I'm afraid the new Boxster Spyder will almost certainly be the prettier car of the two, curious what the specs will be. If it's the 3.8L with GT4 running gear I might be tempted to switch the order...

Anybody else there tomorrow?

It really is quite simple! They dont need to build the brand of course, thats in place. They are maintaining the brand image.

Its working beautifully.

Is not that simple. I see it very clearly. They are building excitement, contoversy and pressure.

Its genius.
