Thanks for comments on Steels vs. PCCB's - interesting how many different points of view there are - my problem is I just think they look amazing - I realise this is heracy and I should be justifying based on technical capabilities - but in truth I'm not a good enough driver to notice and as such I would choose for aesthetics alone - there I've said it - it's out there - no going back now - Sorry everyone
One last question - Sports chrome on a clubbie - a must or a waste of time ? Thoughts on a postcard .......
I went for steels on my GT4 and vary happy with them - reminds me of driving a Caterham. I did however go for ceramics on the RS as it justified it on cost grounds...and yes they look the part, though they need warming upOne last question - Sports chrome on a clubbie - a must or a waste of time ? I specced PCCB's on my GT4 after much soul searching and research,i have never owned a car with PCCB's before and partly chose them out of curiousity and at £4977 a relative bargain for 918 brakes.Imho one would need to drive both steels and PCCB back to back for a definite opinion but having them no regrets at all.I know for a fact if i chose steels there would always be a nagging doubt in my mind.In driving terms what impresses me most about the GT4 is the astonishing damping control over uneven pitted backroads, how much of this is attributed to lower unsprung mass i can't tell without a back to back with steels.
A huge added benefit is despite mine sitting in my yard for a week at the time in pouring rain the brakes still remain shiny where steels would be a rusty colour,a pet hate of mine.

Had ceramics before and loved them, look ace, no dust and performance is outstanding. Tracked with them, which is where for me they come alive and no horror stories.
I know that the GT4 doesn't need them, but they just make the car, for me anyway, a bit more special, and when I'm paying £80k+ for a car I want as much special as possible.

CS race car has steels ;-)
the thing with the GT4 iron disks is you can get nice replacement disks and free to use what ever pad you like.
endless as an example if you track, The winning pad of most GT3 series cars.
PCCB need looking after and pads changing at 50% wear they also costs loads for the pads.
Don't get me wrong I love PCCB, I have them on my other car as that came with smaller brakes, so PCCB is a must have.
The GT4 on the other hand has massive brakes and with steels you get to use the pad best for your needs.
you also don't have to do 1 warm up lap and 2 cool down laps either on steels, PCCB's need looking after on track other wise they delaminate :-(
I have seen many a GT3 with nackered disks at shows and the like.
yes you can get them refinished but it's still going to cost you £6k+ on a disk that size with the low £ rate and as the GT4 WILL brake the rear wheels for you you will do in a set of rears on track quite quick imo.
So as we all bought a GT car to do a few track days it seems PCCB's are a bit of a mistake.
Just my view ofcourse having owned both and I do rave on about PCCB on my other car, but thought it daft to spec them on a GT4.

I repeat, have you sold the GT4 and if so why, and what do u intend to replace it with ? the thing with the GT4 iron disks is you can get nice replacement disks and free to use what ever pad you like.

yes and all that, you do know you can have steels after the set of PCCB wears... the thing with the GT4 iron disks is you can get nice replacement disks and free to use what ever pad you like.

In any case, if you care about unsprung weight and you are not going to go aftermarket forged wheels then the 1-time cost is a bargain.
the refurb cost will hopefully drop in time or replacements get more reasonable but pad choice is certainly an issue. The bite of Pccb is better than steels OEM for OEM but bite can be sorted via pad choice.
thing is, there is no arguing GT4 is over-braked. but the asthetics of pccb are another thing altogether and if you don't track frequently wear is a non-issue. You should always do cool down laps whether on steels or PCCB if you care about longevity of the discs.
i still can't quite get over how BIG they are

u can but need 410mm steel discs for the fronts
So if you want a set of OEM steels you'll have to buy callipers as well then...?When I was considering PCCB I had a mooch around for replacement 410mm steel disks and couldn't find anything. I had a chat to Alcon at Autosport last month and whilst they had replacement disks for a steel shod GT3RS (same as GT4) nothing bigger. All things can change though should a market for 410mm steel disks open up.

Of course, what none of us know is how long these humungous carbon brakes will last ...
They are the same as those of the GT3RS which weighs 100 kilos more and pushes that mass along with a extra 100 bhp ...
Also, the carbon discs are improving ... but yes, they should be looked after.
On the other hand, who would not do a warming up lap if only to check that everything is still where it ought to be, --- and cooling down laps not using the brakes are surely also a bit of fun
P.S. I will also do far more miles on the road than I will on track ... 'must just make a mental note not to stick it in the kitty litter !

Picked up one of these at the weekend.
Can anyone tell me:
1. Do you need to cradle your phone somehow to view out the front screen in order for the trackapp to work? I can't find a cradle anywhere in the car to slot it into.
2. Does the installation of a Cobra (now Vodafone) Cat 5 system invalidate the warranty? My understanding is that the Porsche VTS is just a branded version of the same system however when I spoke with Tracker for an alternative price they said that they wouldn't install for fear of affecting the warranty.
Thanks,
J

spotted one last friday on the A1, reg P888ORK - Looked awesome.
Made me change my spec from yellow to white.
Seeing them out on the road is so different to seeing pictures or a configurator.Made me change my spec from yellow to white.
i think white really suits the GT4 as does GT silver and Guards Red. My fav colours for the car...
