Anyone here own a 3400S or know much about them?

Is it really that unique / special to drive, or are you better off saving a few quid and getting a 911 Cab instead?

Asking for a colleague, though intrigued as fancy a cabrio for the summer myself!!

Have driven neither but you can test drive the 3400S on Gran Turismo 3!

They will be pretty rare cars, Rich. Not sure how many have seen one let alone driven one.

If you fancy a Boxster it's one of the best, fastest and most exclusive ones made. If you don't, it's an unknown depreciation risk and all-round oddity.

Tell your mate to get a Boxster S and keep the change towards a GT3

already did.

EVO and co heaped praise on the 3400, don't remember a 3600 test tho. Really struggling to find anywhere that stocks RUF in the uk to be honest - was kind of hoping that adam or any of the other Ruf afficionados on here could point me in the right direction as being a Maserati boy I have no idea about these crazy German contraptions.

Boxster S as I know is a fine handling car, I certainly wouldn't take one on around the twisties in the 3200!
I'd just wait for the straight bit and blat past

Never driven one myself, nor seen one.

As for Ruf sales in the UK, there is no-one that stocks or sells them really here and there aren't many anyway. Adams Ruf is the only Ruf VIN RTurbo ever registered here for example, though there are a handful of cars with Ruf Engines in etc.......

Wait for AdamT to come along, I am pretty sure Mr Ruf gave him the keys to one of his special Boxta's.

Blimey didnt realise a Ruf vin car was so rare in UK, does that stand for 993 as well Guy?

Come to think of it actually all the Ruf'd porkers I've been in- baring Adams, have been after market conversions.

Mr Tony- not driven or even sen in the flesh a 3400S, but have blatted a converted 996 3.4 engine into Box if thats any help?

That the one autofarm did a while back?

Personally not tempted and I can't see my colleague going for a conversion - unknown resale issues / aftercare etc being the problem.

Personally I really like the look of a 3400S, maybe one day

I drove the dark grey 3400S with Mr RUF for about 800km in one, from munich to Essen and back.

This was back in March 03, but I still remember the car.

Really responsive engine. Fantastic sound and a lovely linear power delivery. Very fast until about 265km/h when the aero drag limits the top speed, and also it is very noisy at those speeds, though stable I felt...but again really loud

Really comfortable, we had the GT3 seats and they are great. Handled well too, but that is expected from the boxster. in my opinion this is the car porsche should have made but couldnt for obvious reasons(better than the 996 C2 imho of course)

I am sure there is/was a 3400s for sale in the US, might be something to think about as the $ is so weak!

Thanks adam - good work on finding that car too! 800km in a 3400S sounds like a really momentus adventure!

Rather fancy it, but being in america no doubt the shipping cost would negate any saving on buying in $$s

$92,000 - or £49k. (at $1.874 = £1.00)

Thats a mild saving over new but not enormous - add in the 3k to fly it back here and you're not really far off the 3400S original new price of £55k.

Wonder how much they can be haggled....

Does that include the 10% import duty and the 17.5% VAT which totals 29.25% when multiplied together......
