997 Turbo upgrade to 9e 28 by Nine Excellence (pic heavy)
Discussion
My son was less than one when I took delivery new. Pic of me and him shortly after delivery. This car going to him as he didn't want me to sell. He loves black
I'm defo happy with black if PCO/Reading promise me a piano finish which is surely possible on repaint from a proper quality team of restorers? Love black just look at it.

I don't think I said that anywhere?
I think putting the decision in the hands of the paintshop is tantamount to doing as much I.If they're quiet, they "may" do a colour change, if they're busy, I'd wager it'll remain black ...
FWIW (and I appreciate it's not my car) I think you're missing out on the opportunity to make it into something truly unique. For many the idea of a colour change is completely verboten, I think the fact you're NOT in that camp, is brilliant. So have the courage of your convictions and make the most of it

When I contacted OPC Reading re colour change they put me in touch with their own skunk works team who only look after 918, CGT and projects like this. They made it clear at outset Porsche AG may not agree to a colour change and we may have to stick with black which is definitely not a problem for me. They did Woppum's GT3 RS to burnt orange to match his P1. I've seen the work its top class
So does Woppum's car not set a precedent in such matters ?Slippydiff said:
I doubt they'll allow you paint it in the original Rubystone colour.
Somewhere on my PC I've got images of the only Rubystone Mk1 996 GT3 ever painted in that hue by the factory. It has a backstory, and the best summation is, the factory are very protective of that particular hue and what car's it's allowed on...
You see now even you're acting like Porsche AG. 100% on colour change! Thats why I gave them 3 historic colours I thought maybe it helps! GT3 is porn my current fave car.Somewhere on my PC I've got images of the only Rubystone Mk1 996 GT3 ever painted in that hue by the factory. I've had all these recommended too Slippy. I met the guys at PCO though and liked them. Agree if Porsche AG make a fuss we can shop around.

No, I'm just telling you that they're protective of Rubystone (and a bit like your engine warranty debacle, it meant getting ugly and ultimately legal with them (the factory) to get that 996 GT3 painted in Rubystone)Which begs the question : Being as they tried to bend you over and shaft you over the engine warranty, why the allegiance to them ?? They'd have shafted you to the tune of what £30-40K plus ? If you hadn't stood your ground. You owe them nothing.
Your having to dance their tune because you're electing to have the car painted by Porsche AG's elected UK agent. Walk away from that scenario and you can paint it any colour you want !!
I appreciate you're busy and time is money, but there must be a numerous superb paintshops across the UK that could do a better job than Reading. What they're doing isn't rocket science, and with your "I'm willing to pay for the right/best job" attitude, I've no doubt you could find better.
Mark (can't remember his surname) Clowes who used to partner Colin at 9M has set up his own bodyshop. Now there's a man with attention to detail when it comes to paint, that very few can match ...
Edit to add Mark's surname, an image of one of his 993 Speedster conversions and his company's website link ...

Cheers Nathan noted. Oh and local to me M&A coachworks. The guy they have working out of Porsche Hatfield Steve? came directly to see me at home. "Let Porsche Reading quote and then we will quote...,'. I fail to grasp why he thinks anyone would go back if he's too busy to do the paperwork for a quote for a full glass out respray with colour change and also cheekily wants to see what his opponent is quoting? They must be very busy but good luck with that attitude getting reference type work. That 993 speedster in orange is iconic car 9m built. Credit to Mark.

terrible outfit, took 3 attempts to get my bumper respray correct and stupid pricesPorsche Central Operations is a team within a team at OPC Reading. The painters like air cooled and work on them restoring them. Also only guys that Porsche AG authorise to work on CGT and 918! My kind of guys.
These things happen Nathan. By way of example ABT in Slough came highly recommended. https://autobodytechnic.com
Even a good paint shop can perhaps have a few bad days I more simply lose patience with mediocre attitudes and average people. Their loss not ours they should be doing a Rolls Royce job for their customers and us as customers speaking well of them. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.
