Same dilemma I have at the moment, love the 996 C4S but put off by the engine issues.....or go another £12kish for the Turbo with hopefully good residuals and huge performance but huge potential for massive bills. 997 Gen 2 out of budget. My sensible side is saying get a 2012 M3 and put an extended warranty but I still hanker after another 911.....the kids massively prefer them too, even if my wife loathes them biggrin

It seems that the huge Elephant in the room is IMS and bore score. Yet if you buy a 6.1 you have less chance of either than if you buy a 6.2 or 7.1.
The 6.1 (3.4) has the dual rail IMS and due to better cooling less chance of bore score.
You need to buy a 7.2 or a turbo if you wish to be certain of neither happening.

I have a 6.1 C2 and bloody love it biglaugh

I don't agree with the statement that there is "huge potential for massive bills" with a turbo. They are never going to be ford fiesta running costs and you definitely need to make sure you buy one that's been looked after properly. However they are very far from money pits, and in fact given the engine issues we all know about for the non turbos, that's where the huge potential for massive bills is!

30k should get you into a gen 2 without starship miles.
I traded my 997.2 Pdk with less than 40k on the clock fpsh+ and a few months of warranty left on it for 30k 11 months ago. At the time trade bids were 28-30k
Stick the details of a car you're interested in into wbac. This'll give you an accurate trade guide.
Private asking prices are a bit dreaming at the mo, but I don't see them moving.

That's interesting. From what I can see £35k is the cheapest way into a gen 2 with sub 70k miles.

I don't know enough about used Porsche prices but will do what you suggest with WBAC. Obviously people will want best buck for their pride and joy, but ultimately if they want to sell, it is only worth what someone is prepared to pay. Depends how quickly the individual is looking to sell I guess.

You'll have to wait for 911V to get another leggy, manual C2 Gen 2 or pay more. Prices are strong compared to what I paid a couple of years ago, but people keep buying them.

Also worth looking for cars that opc's have had in stock for approaching 90 days. They'll chuck them to the trade before 90 days is up to protect new car bonuses (Porsche fine them)
End of March is a good time to buy. Lowest price in the year and many cars will have sat through the winter so dealers are keen to shift.

Fab didn't know that about the 90 day move on either so will start taking note now of what's in stock. Thanks!

OP this is a marmite colour combo but personally I love it. I'd bid £30k for it privately

Wow, lots effort gone into that advert! Might even be a scam.

Worth checking out though, could be a bargain....

Looks like the same exterior colour as my turbo - orient red metallic. I loved it when I saw it advertised - not sure I'd even own a turbo if I hadn't since I'd been browsing ads but not seriously enough to view anything.

On the other hand, that interior is... an acquired taste.

I've never bought anything on eBay. Aren't you protected in any way? Heck of scam if it is pulling out a car with a combo like that!

All have trade prices of <30k so punt in some offers and see if they want to sell.

+1 OP.

It also has heated seats and PASM (an option on a C2) which aren't mentioned in the scantily written ad.

Thanks for that, I'm in a similar situation and would really like a Gen 2, are you saying you think they'd take £30k for a £35k car? That's some pretty aggressive bargaining if they do. I've found a gorgeous Ruby Red 2008 last of the Gen 1s just down the road for £31k, sounds great but I'd rather get the later model if poss......
