Driving IMIA's extraordinary air-cooled 911s
Discussion
in the spirit of this thread, I would like to reiterate my offer to cmoose a while back to test my 981 Spyder. I can't promise it will please him as much as the more analogue air cooled stuff, but perhaps that and the 360 spider would be interesting for him to try.
There are almost more commonalities between the 360 and Boxster Spyder than the 911 and spyder, because of the engine layout and lighter steering etc.

I am sort of kicking myself I did not buy your 3.2. My daily is in for service and I have been using my 3.2 Coupe I bought a couple of months back that needed a bit of fettling having stood unloved for a little while. It is an early car 1984 with 165,000 miles on it. White with blue pasha. I had forgotten how much fun they are to drive. Sub 1200kg so with its lowly 231bhp it feels quite lively and that flat six noise is just glorious. I drove it for the first time Saturday and have not been out of it since. The missus has fallen in love with it and wants to take her manual gearbox driving test having passed in an automatic. It appears to now belong to her. I am cool with that but she will not be driving any of my other manual gearbox equipped cars.

Commiserations probably a better word. Have no-one to look after them whilst I'm overseas apart from you Jez Scooting west to OPC Swindon every year to service the 964 C2 is also becoming a bit of a chore as shes been serviced by her supplying dealer Dick Lovett all of her life which is a double edged sword. Swindon had us over a barrel for the major service at £1200 inc tappets. OPC Cambridge were willing to do the same work for £750 but had no other choice but to send to OPC Swindon if I wanted to keep her unique history which stuck in my throat a bit.
I bought them both to use and wanted to put some modern Ohlins suspension on the 964 C2 but in reality even the 68,000 mile 3.2 Carrera Sport is too nice to use when I see how few rust free and mostly original paint cars there are out there let alone modding a time warp 964 C2 of which I doubt there are many 30,000 mile UK supplied RHD examples left. On some of the 3.2 Carreras I've looked at as a reference over the past few months the full resprays on cars priced at circa £70k would be sent back if that standard of work had been done on any of my cars including my old Polo!
It was a pleasure to let you have them and happy for you to do a review of the 9e fettled turbo so you stop swiping at modern turbos!
Answers on a postcard!
Been a long wait finding the right car and this 993 Carrera RS pastiche bought via 911v as part of the air cooled journey after running the lovely 3.2 Carrera and 964 C2 in this thread side by side for 3-4 years.
3.8 330bhp + 9m engine revs out to 7200 + rpm. Sorted handling and circa1250 kgs.
The driving experience is like learning how to drive again from scratch if you want to press on especially so in the current weather. Thought about other more modern cars but they all give up their knickers on a first date. You have to work a bit harder for your rewards with an air cooled!
Thanks to Tom and Joshi at 911v for going beyond what might be reasonably expected of any dealer prepping a car which wasn't part of their inventory - she coincidentally previously belonged to one of their clients of old who commissioned her with no expense spared via Heritage Autowerks and Ninemeister and the car is a credit to all of them especially the previous owner, Les Mills, who's covered 15000 miles since completing the build. One of his other bonkers 911s is also currently for sale at Joe Macari and used to hold the Ring record back in 1998 (in fact if you're a successful youtuber and want classic content this car is the absolute bomb) http://www.joemacari.com/All-Cars-for-Sale/_prod_P...
More info about the Yellow Peril on page 50 in the link below if maybe of interest.

I've watched the Black Snake being fettled over the years at Fearnsport. It's one hell of a car. A shame it's current asking price falls under the banner of "frankly ridiculous".

Set up/drive/spec well resolved - focussed enough to handle the odd track day but not too stiff for touring - amazing! After a few years will maybe try a pre impact bumper and 6 GT3 also on bucket list as well as a 944 turbo if I can ever find a good one. Been drooling over this splendid 911 in the classifieds as you do
