Driving a 991 GTS Targa 4 and 991 GTS 4 Coupe
Discussion
The Targa is so pretty (not in red, though) that I want to forgive it for being so huge and heavy, but I dont think I would ever be able to do so.
Unlike the chap above, I really like the 911 feel relative to a Cayman. I found my 987.2 Cayman felt the same whether driven sedately or driven at pace - extremely neutral and best driven on a racing line and as smooth as possible (so the only difference is the actual cornering speed). I was impressed by it rather than loving it. My 997.2 is objectively a bit st in some respects - light front end at speed, tendency to bob a bit, not so stable under braking - but it is a lot more engaging because it behaves different when driven hard to when just guided along. It has more of a split personality than the Cayman, in my view.
Back to the 991 - does nothing for me, really. I see it as having crossed a fairly significant line. The 997 was, in my opinion, already borderline as regards size and refinement (just about still "sporty"), and the 991 feels too much like an everyday car to me. Awesomely impressive, but it doesnt pull at my heartstrings. The interior is also, to disagree with Cmoose, pretty horrendous in my view: cheap-looking materials and far too fussy for a Porsche. Audi influences!

Tagra 4 GTS......evokes a lot of Opinions.....you either get it or you don't.....now here's my Opinion.....over the next 10/15 yrs watch the values rise of the GTS (997 & 991)especially the Targa 4 model with a manual box....the last of the 3.8ltr N/A engined 911's
I'd have to agree that a manual 991 GTS will be a very sort after car in years to come....in whatever form. I love the look of the Targa too...not sure if it was you but someone posted the other day that they bought the only Targa GTS their dealer was getting. If each dealer has only been allocated one unit with most probably PDK a manual Targa GTS would be a very rare car,.what people should remember is all the opinions that motoring press passed on to the 964RS back in 1991/92 15 years later and they were the best driving experience since the car had been invented and we all know what happened to the Values.....lets watch and wait as History has a habit of repeating

you either get it or you don't....you don't which is OK.....Porsche developed the GTS Coupe / Targa to fill a small niche they felt existed in their 911 range a car that would appeal to an existing 911 owner who possibly already has a GT3 or the prospective GT3 buyer who in their mind was put off by the lack of compromise / drive ability but who wanted something more flexible but still sporty (and with the Targa open top motoring) a car that will cover all the bases the Targa is heavier than a GT3 and the GTS Coupe for sure but then their Roof doesn't come off but it's still quicker and handles batter than the average sports car so a 0-60 time of 4.3 for the GTS Coupe or 4.7 for the GTS Targa is really neither here nor there and the weight well I'll admit it doesn't feel as sharp as a GT3 but it's clear it's not meant to be a GT3 it's a compromise and with that in mind and with PDCC on and in Sport Plus it feels pretty damned closeCheib said:
Just saw a 991 Targa GTS being unloaded off a transporter on Park Lane...with the number plate 250 SWB. Lord knows what that plate is worth.
Porsche Mayfair also had one of the limited edition 991 Mayfair Targa's in the window....yours for £150k. Now that is the wrong price.
LOL....it's only the wrong price if you can't afford it...anyway all I'll say is.....Sport ClassicPorsche Mayfair also had one of the limited edition 991 Mayfair Targa's in the window....yours for £150k. Now that is the wrong price.

Nice colour that - what is it ?
Agate grey metallic.Suits the car far better than the red IMHO - for some reason, red doesn't work for me on the targa although I like it on my Cayman. I think the targa is a stunning looking car - it probably is correctly identified above as the gin palace of the 991 range but if I had one, I just wouldn't care.

Mayfair car has none of those, it's just a tarted up Targa. Nothing like the same thing.

Sport Classic was Porsche AG special with special roof, one off colour, special interior, special exhaust pipes etc

LOL....you shouldn't be quite so dismissiveMayfair car has none of those, it's just a tarted up Targa. Nothing like the same thing.
Don't get me wrong the Sport Classic is a beautiful car but you could construe it to be just a pimped up Carrera 2S with 4S body a double domed Roof and Ducktail spoiler and 408HP)....so put into perspective a new 2009 Carrera 2S £76000....Sport Classic £132,500 so is it worth the extra £56,000....of course it was as they are now somewhere North of £200k

So here's the point.....the Targa is widebody anyway the Roof comes off Targa Stylee (nice) and it will have the 430HP kit and just about every other option Porsche do and if I remember correctly Porsche Exclusive are only making 5 for Porsche OPC Mayfair as a homage to the Targa Florio.....sounds pretty special to me......not sure I'd want my car to have the name of a 70's porn mag on it though
