Which shows how different we all are. In my opinion the 360 is a million miles more involving to drive than a 996 turbo, and many many times more fun. They are massively different and as a "fun" car, the turbo doesn't even come a close second for me.
Not sure what you mean by build quality either really - mine seems very well built.

You are kidding, right!

Slightly OT but what is the 996 turbo like compared to the GT2? Anyone driven both? I've not driven a turbo myself but if it's anything like a GT2 then put me on the list of people who don't understand the 'soulless' comments!
Management summary:

996 turbo = GT2 with smaller turbos and 4WD

(There's a little more to it, but those give the flavour.)

ive got an x50 996 turbo... and its bloody quick - though why anyone actually needs a car that quick when they spend 90% of their time driving at sub 30mph around london is beyond me - and yet thats what i do most of the time.

Bar a few epic runs down the autobahn, the car really hasnt (and cant!) be used to its potential in the UK. So yes the V8 might be slower, but is anyoen really regularly driving well into the hundreds, or overtaking everythign in sight on the school run???

Drove an Aston a few months ago as was looking at this very same swap, and the biggest overal difference was at 20mph the V8 was an experience to drive with the noise etc, whereas the 911 doesnt feel special - i could be sat in a boxster and not know the difference.

Sadly - swapping no longer an option as need to sell the TT for the deposit on a house frown

It all depends where you live. Luckily I do not live in London anymore and the roads near me are fantastic. London is a pain what ever you drive. My choice would be an old, automatic, and a barge that I did not give a sh*t about. Would not bother with Aston,or a Porsche, just no point like you say.

Hi folks, I've owned a 996tt for a couple of years and have a good friend with a v8v. He's been nice enough to let me co-drive on trips to the highlands and Le Mans.
His 4.7 is a real joy to drive - it's a revver - like the s2000 i owned an age ago. Wind it up and it feels very very fast - just as fast as the Tt I'd say - but 'tight Spring' not 'mad thrust'.
You notice the lack of torque and traction in then v8v - but then i miss the top end frenzy in the Tt.
I was very very impressed at how comfortable the v8v was on long journeys, and how it transformed into a taught racer at the destination.
The v8v is much harder to drive fast that the Tt.
Said friend regularly pings me tasty v8vs that I could switch to now the Tt value has risen.
Three things hold me back:
Wet handling (the Tt comes alive in the wet and the U.K. Is wet!
Nippers - I have two and the Tt is a capable family car
Servicing - I must have a good value and reputable specialist nearby for my cars and there isn't an Aston one (and Gt one are around the corner)
Oh, and value - I like the fact the Tt is rising a lot!

In summary, both are wonderful wonderful cars - an apple, and an orange.

Performance wise, I don't think they're in the same league. You need the S to be close, and even then the 996t is quicker.
