As mentioned in the connected thread, I wonder if cold Cup 2's in damp conditions contributed to this, I had them on my GT3 and they need upmost respect in those conditions in my opinion, I know others will disagree but they could be scary as hell in certain conditions. In hot dry conditions when up to temperature they are simply amazing

Would it not be a bit kinder to this chap to delete this thread, poor bu**er has gone through enough without having this subject turned over on a number of threads on here ?

so for total loss, do you get a cheque for the list price or the current market value (~£100k) to replace it?

Because you are then at the bottom of the dealer's order list, or not on it. Or you are £40k out of pocket

Unless you have an Agreed Value included in your policy, they usually pay out current market value as given in Glasses Guide at that time, and I can't see that GG will be listing them over retail tbh.

The GT4 will probably not even be listed in Glasses or as most now use Cap.

Impossible to get agreed value on a vehicle under 12 months old. So you are left with invoice cost which clearly won t put you in the same position as before having regard to the premiums on the car. Most insurers will however have regard to what the vehicle is selling for and backing up by evidence could well help your corneralthough it could well be an uphill struggle depending on the insurer.

Would replacement vehicle GAP insurance pay out the difference in this case ? not to be confused with return to invoice GAP

Being really nosey but the owner of the written off car has now taken delivery of a brand new silver GT4. Tom posted up on the facebook groups a picture and video but every time someone asks if the car was another build slot (as the second car has come from an OPC), the posts have been removed completely (or I can't find them anyway). Just interested to know if his insurance company (Admiral I believe) paid out with no hassle, and how much the original car was insured for? Maybe Tom can answer?

Maybe somebody took pity on him but doesn't want to open a hornets nest ??

Since there should be no unspoken for cars ...

A satisfactory outcome to put to bed ?

I'd really like to think that Porsche GB sorted something for him to get him another car, and maybe put him under NDA so they are not setting the precedence for sorting replacements out if people smash them up.

I really wouldn't like to think that his local OPC got another allocation and he jumped the 'queue'.

As for insurance, I'm guessing Admiral paid out without too much hassle given the timeframe. As for how much, I doubt Tom would share that. I probably wouldn't.

Glad that he's managed to get a replacement though smile

When that bloke wrote off his 991 GT3 after something like 20 miles, Porsche offered him a new one to replace it - didn’t take them up on it apparently...

Was it the silver gt4 at opc east London. Saw one in there the other day when driving past. Heard that Porsche were upset for him and allowed another allocation.

Nice ending for the owner there.
Still haven't worked out what the actual crash was from what's been posted, anyone care to explain the circumstances, looks like a understeer or drift/slide into the outside furniture or something to me?...

Not sure, only that his friend was driving, which I assume he was covered for otherwise it would have been foolish to mention on a public forum.

Reason I ask how Admiral performed with regards to settlement is because he's mentioned on one of the facebook groups that he's now switched insurers, which if Admiral had paid out with no fuss, you'd surely stick with them?

If ultimately Porsche have stepped in and allowed him to order another, fair play, but it came a bit too quick surely (month or two?) and I'd hate to think that someone has missed out on an allocation, or been delayed as a result.

I guess we'll never find out, which is of course the buyers prerogative.

Or perhaps he bought a flipped car?

Maybe, and more important if so, because did the insurer allow him to pick the flipped car and them cover it? Just really interested in how the insurance company handled it.

This car is currently HPI clear and on sale, via an advert on PH:

Another failing of the insurance system as per the Autoexpress article: https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/106336/the-...

It turns out it was never officially written off smile

I agree, but I do wonder how many places can/will carry out the repair work as per the ever more complicated & correct procedures, how would you know if not done by an official Porsche approved repairer ??

This car was before on PH: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I quote the description of a person close to the case:

"The insurance company declared it a Cat. C write-off, or in their words a 'total loss'. It's been sold for salvage to a company called HBC in Essex, but it's properly f#cked, I promise you. It needs a new body, front and rear suspension, the engine doesn't run, pretty much every panel needs replacing, both seats are damaged, the electronics have been exposed to moisture where it has been left uncovered and open... Shall I go on?!"

Naughty, very naughty.
Seem to recall reading on here or 911Uk that the Cat system fails/delays reporting quite frequently.

IIRC HPi used to offer an insurance policy/indemnity for cases such as these (ie you ran an HPi check on a prospective purchase, it HPi’s clear, you proceed with the purchase and six months later it shows up as Cat C/D when you try to re-tax it ...) HPi’s policy then makes up the shortfall in value ?
