Will my (stock) GT4 pass Castle Combe's noise test?
"All vehicles must comply to the strict noise limit of 100db(A), which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at 4500rpm."
At Cadwell Park a week last Saturday I noise tested at 99db in normal exhaust mode and at 5 to 5,500 rpm ---"All vehicles must comply to the strict noise limit of 100db(A), which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at 4500rpm."
I ran it up to 5500 and held it there ... dipped clutch, warm engine.
At Oulton Park I tested at 102db and 107db with the loud exhaust setting ---

Hopefully the gt4.2 will be NA, I say this owning the current car.
I just can't see how they'll give a NA 6 any performance edge over the 4 turbo, thats on the assumption the turbo 6 won't fit in a 718.
They said the GT4 isn't about pure lap times/performance figures, so is it possible the new car will keep the same ideology & be no quicker on paper than a 4 turbo GTS if it retains the 3.8?

Quick question for anyone who has LWB's and doesn't mind getting the measuring tape out!
Would anyone be able to tell me what the width is of the seat base between the bolsters?
I'm picking mine up in a couple of weeks and wanted to take my daughter home from the dealership in it but need to know if I can fit her car seat between the bolsters.
I hope your daughter is over twelve & of a higher stature than the norm.
Certainly don't want to rain on you parade but Porsche categorically state that if a child needs the use of a child seat i.e.
Is under the weight/height stipulations for independently using an adult front seat, then a child cannot be seated on the LWBs. There is no provision for turning off the airbag hence a triggering of the bag could prove lethal for a small child.
I have the same dilemma in my CGTS, hopefully your daughter is older than my 10 year old grandchild.
Robograd - your tone suggests that raining on his parade is precisely your intent! And it sounds like your grandchild may have been missing out unnecessarily...Would anyone be able to tell me what the width is of the seat base between the bolsters?

Here's what you need to know apachesmith:
The seat base between the bolsters is 300mm at its narrowest point
If your seat fits and your daughter is >15kg, it'll be fine both legally and in practice
Over 135cm = no child seat required in any case
Airbag comment is irrelevant - deactivation is only necessary with a rear-facing baby seat
Age comment is irrelevant also

Thank you. I've gone ahead and booked 105db days at Goodwood and Castle Combe. Sounds like I'll be fine.

This rennlist topic pretty much covers all sides of the argument. I would suggest reading it and making your own decision after digesting it.

But if they are all the way back I thought the airbag wouldn't reach them? That's maybe my naivety so glad I asked thanks!Would anyone be able to tell me what the width is of the seat base between the bolsters?

Ouch!! There is certainly no malice implied or intended by my comments, I come in peace. I was informed by my OPC that it was not legal to place a child's seat in a Cayman without deactivating the airbag & that deactivation only comes with Isofix. If you press the ? Button to right side of the LWB option on the configurator & have a look, my comments related to the use of child seats & the criteria for their use.
Goodwill to all
Here's what UK law says:
1. Using a child car seat or booster seat
Children must normally use a child car seat until they’re 12 years old or 135cm tall, whichever comes first.
Only EU-approved child car seats can be used in the UK. These have a label showing a capital ‘E’ in a circle.
You can choose a child car seat based on your child’s height or weight.
Height-based car seats
Height-based car seats are known as ‘i-Size’ seats. They must be rear-facing until your child is over 15 months old. Your child can use a forward-facing car seat when they’re over 15 months old.
You must check the seat to make sure it’s suitable for the height of your child.
Weight-based car seats
Weight-based car seats must be rear-facing until your child weighs more than 9kg.
After that the seat your child can use (and the way they must be restrained in it) depends on their weight.
You may be able to choose from more than one type of seat.
Child’s weight Car seat
0kg to 13kg Rear-facing baby carrier, or rear-facing baby seat using a harness
9kg to 18kg Rear- or forward-facing baby seat using a harness or safety shield
15kg to 36kg Forward-facing child seat (high-backed booster seat or booster cushion) using a seatbelt
The Child Car Seats website has information on how to choose a car seat and travel safely with children in cars.
Fitting a child car seat
You must only use a child car seat if your car’s seat belt has a diagonal strap, unless the car seat is either:
- specifically designed for use with a lap seat belt
- fitted using ISOFIX anchor points
You must also:
- deactivate any front airbags before fitting a rear-facing baby seat in a front seat
- not fit a child car seat in side-facing seats
My 6 year old is 25kg and 130cm. He uses a booster cushion to ensure that the belt crosses him at the right height
My 8 year old is 138cm. He sits in the seat as it is
I want the passenger airbag to work if there's a crash carrying either of them. Airbag deactivation is required for rear-facing seats as the bag can tip those seats over in a crash
This is not complicated.

And you shall be received in peace too I think your OPC was missing the critical distinction between a rear-facing baby seat (airbag deactivation required by law) and a forward-facing child seat where no such deactivation is required. Or wanted!

Sorry not implying any malice on your part - agreeing with the comments made thereafter. Please read the rennlist topic that I posted earlier. This goes into depth about the reasoning behind the use or non use of booster seats in lwb's, including US specific legal issues..If you press the ? I use a simple bolster cushion for mine and move the seat back with full height up... perfectly fine.

Thanks Ian that's most kind of you.
She is over 15kgs but the base is 410mm wide so I may have to re-think this, where there's a will.....
