I don't think you're selling it to him Darren! laugh
Just offering an honest opinion...

Anyone else for Donington on 6th June? Would be great to get a few more GT4s there. Currently 4 plus a Cayman R and 981 Spyder if everyone comes through.
I'll be there.

There you go...

http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk/trackday/index.p...

£219, 98dba drive by so GT4 should be OK. Should be at least 4 GT4s plus Cayman Rs and Boxster Spyders if it all goes to plan.
Thanks - tempted - but I'm a track day Virgin - yet to dip my toe into this murky testosterone filled world of balls and bravado - think I'm too scared ! What are they like ? smile
If you've never been on track it's fine, take it easy and get some tuition. If you've never even been to a track day just come along, pay £10 for a wristband and go out as a passenger with a few of us to get a feel for it. There's less testosterone and more PG Tips when we're there.

It's generally very friendly and not competitive at all. Driving standards are usually good with various levels of experience and talent as well as a diverse mixture of cars from £500 Clios to Ferrari race cars, each one their owner's P&J so collisions are very rare. Some people do take a trip into the scenery on occasion but that's more to do with a temporary lack of talent or just getting that last run in before the end of the session.
I agree --- why not come along and take as many passenger rides as you can ? There are track days for "starters" if you wish to take it gently. Tuition is invaluable. But I remember my second track day ever at the Oulton RS day some years ago in my freshly painted 964RS N-GT. I remember vividly being the mobile chicane, --- it's great incentive to get better and I've thoroughly enjoyed the journey smile
But to get anywhere, you need to start ...

I've booked this and look forward to meeting some fellow GT4 owners.

By then my ski injury hit knee (that's cost me days at Silverstone and Brands this spring already...) will be properly recovered so I'll be able to participate fully.

I've been to Donington today watching the GT series - there was a couple of GT4's running (and a few 911's) one from OPC Tonbridge - the GT4's make a very weird almost electric noise.

Never heard a Porsche sound so quiet and not very 'Porsche' whilst on track before.

Any reason why?

Anyone booked on the LOT Spa day on the 12th May..??

My GT4 will be making it's track debut, assuming I can get enough miles on it in the meantime...

Speaking of which, has anyone changed their aero or suspension settings from factory yet..?? I was thinking of softening the front ARB as I've found the GT4 has a little understeer in the wet.

every one is fighting GT4 understeer. It feels mega until you get on the limits then the front is a wash.
I felt it on the pec cars when every one was beeming !!
I don't think making a soft front will help, as a few are already fitting firmer front spring rates due to roll.

So that means rear ARB to hard and more front camber. you will have to buy shims and rear adjustable toelinks to get any sort of working geo though.
I would keep aero stock esp for Spa, imo you want less drag on those straights.

I think you can drive around this by altering technique a little - later braking with more trail. Have driven at Silverstone, Spa, and Ring and the car is surprisingly good on std geo and aero settings...yes, it will hopefully be even better with the mods as suggested above and I will be looking to do those next. I did notice the outside tyres shoulders (Cup 2) are a lot more worn after the three outings than I am used to on a track geo 996 GT3...

yep I stated before you have to drive the GT4 more 911 style.
I have the parts fitted and the geo gets changed on Thursday, still not quite decided what to go for.
But I think I will plump for -2.3 up front I think and only -1.8 at the rear, as with the rear ARB set to hard it's not wearing the rear outters at all and they seem a bit too cool !

Or it pushes so much I cannot get the car to use it's rear camber due to the oem front being only -1.5 !

Looking forward to Thursday and a bit of run out with new settings as I don't like the balance of the car atm/ and hated the PEC cars on track.
Any way that's how it will run at Angelsey and I'll do some pyro work to see what's going on.

Not after and out and out track set up, just fast road with min wear and is not as frustrating on track.

Most people will run oem it seems and live with it which is a shame. but then on the road at legal speeds it does feel like it has grip in spades.

5 GT4s confirmed, should be a great day. Anyone else interested?

Did you like the PEC cars on track? wink

What's the issue with running oem for road use?

Did Kav1 share his settings with you?

1: nope
2: nothing if you are not hitting the grip limit and happy with the car, I ran rear ARB hard from the get go as in the middle I did not like the cars at pec.
3: nope, but I tend to do my own thing, just nice to see what people are doing but a lot of people seem to go in blind( ie the thread response was OPC track set up) and have a shop set it up with no print out. Also a lot of peoples geo's are with rear ARB in the middle where mine is in the Stiffest setting. I'll get mine on track with a race pyro set up and tweak it to my style anyway.

not yet, geo tomorrow then I'll get on track and see how it fairs with the new bits and bobs.
was not happy how the car is on the limit so don't waste my time with stock geo on track.
