Hi I was there in one of the Blue ones.. first time on track in the GT4 and first time to Silverstone. Had a great time and had start adjusting my driving style a bit coming form lightweight cars. Car went well though.. What were you in Steve..
Think there were 5 GT4.. Black, 2 Blue, Green, and Voodoo with white stickers. Also a GT4 Clubsport, that when very well.

I was in a 997 cup. I saw the GT4 club sport. There was one at bands as well. Nicely engineered. Think there were 5 GT4.. Black, 2 Blue, Green, and Voodoo with white stickers. Also a GT4 Clubsport, that when very well.

So has anyone had a think about what they want to achieve on the 6th?
The person with the fastest lap has the best geo? Is it that simple?
where others I find love getting their Vmax speed down the curves, or people seem to want to hit that magic 100mph. where I am happy at 90mph. The person with the fastest lap has the best geo? Is it that simple?

with reference to speeds , I run a data logger and when I raced my old Honda Crx at Donny last year from memory I hit peak speed of 124 mph not sure on what the straight is called but was up towards the chicane that leads onto the pit straight and craner curves were taken pretty much flat at 112mph with a quickest lap time in the 1.18s , I would imagine a GT4 is going to b going fair bit quicker on all the straights and it would be great to see a video or two to see how they compare .
PS. Are you pretty confident you are not going to have noise Issues its the strictest circuit I have been too , bearing in mind its on a flight path !!every time I have been there over the years I have been kicked off I got black flagged straight away on a trackday there last year and my crx only reads 88db static so much quieter than my Spyder , but on drive by under load I triggered the sound meter and in the end I had to short shift every lap where the sound meter was which spoiled the day

Your time of 1.18 is similar to the front runners in the Porsche club championship when they race the national circuit at Donington. And that's on slicks. I'd be very surprised if a GT4 on cup 2 tyres could get close to that, especially on a track day.p.s. That straight has no name but used to be referred to as the Dunlop straight when the old Dunlop tyre bridge used to be there.

It's the strictest circuit for noise because of the terms of its planning permission. The sound meter is linked directly to the local Council Office Environmental Dept so it has no option but to comply if it wants to keep operating and we want to keep enjoying it.Whether we like it or not, noise is an issue that makes us petrol heads unpopular. Yes, Donington is next to an Airport but official figures show that the runway is only in use for 19% of the available time so there are actually often some fairly long quiet periods between take offs and landings whereas the circuit use can result in a nearly constant drone that not everyone finds appealing.
Also the airport has about 6000 jobs there so people cut it some slack.
I'm not saying that's right, but it's a fact. I'm a resident of Castle Donington but also a racer, spectator and former aircraft tech so I see/ hear all sides of the argument. But one things for sure, if we want to continue our hobby we have to comply with the regs and the circuits have to comply with their planning conditions. We are a minority interest and an easy target for sanctions.

Dave sorry didn't get chance to catch up, hope the car was going well.
HiFine thank you, under instruction for 1st 3 hrs, then got to press on once on my own. Astonished at the wear rate of the Cups on the RS, now 12 track days, over 3mm left, after a few dial downs they just sit there....

Quite geo dependent I guess. Fine thank you, under instruction for 1st 3 hrs, then got to press on once on my own. Astonished at the wear rate of the Cups on the RS, now 12 track days, over 3mm left, after a few dial downs they just sit there....
On the 996 GT3 I have very pointy geo (circa 3 deg camber) and the Cup 2s last for ages as you say and super steady after a couple of dial downs (though I notice my outside edges are almost getting to slicks as I drive harder).
On the GT4, the Cup 2 fronts are already toast after just 4 track days - in fact quite disappointed with the wear rate though it is still running stock geo. New geo (inc a few component changes) should go on in a fortnight and then we will see. My friend's stock Dunlop fronts lasted only 2 track days..

On the RS it needs camber or it runs to much on the outer edges of the tyre, I run just under 2d all round which is about the most without going on to shims...though hard to run above 2.5 on the rear with out rubbing. On the 996 GT3 I have very pointy geo (circa 3 deg camber) and the Cup 2s last for ages as you say and super steady after a couple of dial downs (though I notice my outside edges are almost getting to slicks as I drive harder).

How many total miles?
Not sure why the disappointment wearing the edges on the tyres on a stock geo and expected more than 4 track days !!
I took my Stock R on track and bent the tread blocks after 5 laps so went home.
IF you track a GT4 get a geo done , or any car for that matter, it's simples ;-)#
All this "you can drive round it" bks is well bks :-)
