On behalf of a friend. He needs to know the relative 'pros' and 'cons' of the various GT4 seat options, so I said I'd enquire.

I would guess it will be mainly road, plus occasional track use, with an eye on residuals.

He said he was going to go for folding buckets (with seat heaters) but discovered they have no height adjustment, and it would probably be driven by drivers between 5'3" and 5'11". Would they still work?

Surely the best option would be to go to a (variety of) Porsche Dealer(s) and try them out for yourself.
What one person on here may find wonderfully comfortable and supportive may not suit others.

He's away, hence the enquiry.

I went for 918 style full buckets but they weren't comfortable over a distance. Gave me neck and shoulder ache. The folding buckets are much more comfortable for me.

The folding buckets in my Cayman R were amazing, so comfortable, but I would assume are the least spec'd option in the GT4. Considering residuals, then the full race seats (918) are a must and what most buyers would look for, especially with a mix of road and track, but if the rest of your spec is focused around comfort, such as for touring, then the standard sport seats are the best option, especially considering all the adjustment.

In my opinion, spec the 918 seats and have a cushion handy should anyone need it for height.

The folding buckets in my 991 GT3 are fantastic, but they are quite upright and do suit a certain body shape - I'm 6'2" - what one person finds comfortable might not necessarily suit someone else.

As above, the best solution is to arrange to try out the different options.

The PEC car I drove had standard seats and IMO it ruined the experience.

Mine has the 918 buckets which I've found very comfortable for long stretches and is a must for the track. I drove a couple of hours to the RS day at Oulton Park, did quite a few circuits then drove home without any neck/back issues - unlike other Porsche Buckets I've had.

Btw - I'm 5'8"

Besides issues of style or comfort there are a few things that might influence seat choice.

Folding buckets have no height adjustment but can be heated
LWB's have electric height adjustmentcan't but can't be heated
18 way adaptive seats have masses of adjustment, comfort and can be heated but are heavy and don't include the electric steering column and memory function that comes with them on other models

I am another who opted for folding buckets which after trying the 918 style was a no brainer for me.The folding buckets which I also had in my 987 spyder are I find as comfortable as the sports seats I had in a previous Porsche, but it is all down to personal preference.I am a slim and touch over 5'7" and find the folding buckets perfect in the gt4 for me.

the 918 seats go best with the car, also the older folding style have no height adjust and you act sit higher than a sports seat!

The 918 style go VERY low if you are tall, and go up a lot if you are short it seems they fit 5'8 to 6'2 so far looking at who is happy with them.

NO contest imo 918 style 100% , I also love the older folding buckets but have 2 cars with those and need my GT4 to feel all new.

the height is not the problem with the 918 style I just found them firstly too upright(kidney crushing) which I suppose you would adjust to but more importantly I found them too wide and not very snug so I could not get comfortable.
when the buckets were unavailable I was going to opt plain sports seats as I know with the adaptives I would never be happy with the position and would be forever pressing the buttonsmad

I've not had the pleasure of trying them out, but if the 918 seats have significant height adjustment, then I'd definitely choose those above the seat heating offered by the folding buckets.

After 2000 miles in the 918 buckets I am delighted. I'm 6.1 ft and 15 stone and never have an issue with them.
They are supremely comfortable for me and together with the height adjustment mean that you can really sit your arse on the chassis.

What struck me most about having either of the bucket options as against the comfort seats, is that this car really corners. It sticks to the road like st to a blanket together with the ultra sticky cup 2 or dunlop tyres so to get the maximum effect you need buckets. Its feels really go cart like compared to my old CR.

The feeling of being held in the bucket seats through a high speed corner is superb and would be lost if ordering 18 way chairs.

I did a couple of 200 mile runs and on both I had neck / shoulder ache. I love the 918 buckets but (for me), they weren't as comfortable as I'd hoped. Didn't have similar issues with the folding buckets on two 987 Spyders and my current 991 GTS. Although the 991 buckets have a height adjustment apparently (I didn't notice it). I'm 5'9".

Just spec CS pack and you'll have no choice but to go with full buckets. Obviously most people find them comfortable but when I mentioned it to the dealer he said I wasn't the first to say the same.

Definitely don't go with the sport seat option. They just felt wrong when I took the PEC car out.

Mine has 918 style full buckets, I find them comfortable and especially like how much feedback comes through them. I've not tried another a GT4 with different seats but suspect the rock solid build and fixed design of the 918s is a factor.

I wish I had the 918 seats - thats what I ordered but car arrived with folding buckets as per Cayman R.

The 918 seats do have electric height adjustment. The folding buckets do not.

918 buckets for the looks and potential value at resale.

Folding bucket seats for comfort. No height adjustment but the angle is as others have said just so right.

I'm 6' and 13 stone.

I've found the 918s generally comfortable, maybe slightly lacking in lumber support. Though sods law I've a slight disc problem since just before delivery in January.
However that's my problem- not the seat design.
I think they're definitely the preferred option for a 4.

I am 6ft (wide) and weigh 25 stone. Do Porsche make a seat for me? (and don't say "a Cayenne"!)
