BIG love for the Turbo S from Sutters. Difficult choice. I think I'd have to have both.

Not the best comparison as there is no meaningful comparison in the vid. What a waste of time and money.

Thanks for posting though.

thanks for that - interesting about the price comparison - I think in Germany they cost about the same base (of course on the F you will add a lot more in extras on top of the base)

Confession time for me. After a very pleasant visit to the Cylinder Club meet at D.Lovett Swindon I was lured into having a test drive of the new 488 at Thruxton. First off I was driven by an accomplished racing driver who demonstrated its truly startling performance then I had 3 successive drives. The performance is mind blowing, in fact every aspect of the car is much the same. What could I say but "Oh Dear". I felt I had a problem .

When I came to leave I was fortunate to meet a guy who had also been driving the 488. He was off to race his 650S GT3. He actually wasn't that complimentary and reckoned that the Ferraris suspension was too soft. When he realised that the bright Orange Porsche GT3RS was mine he reckoned that I would be ill advised to swop it for a 488. Then came the part that I was dreading, the drive home whilst doing man maths.

There is no doubt or denying the lure of the Ferrari but within a couple of miles I felt myself declaring that I preferred my car. Sure it lacks the sheer beauty of the Italian car where my RS gains is the feeling, the noise, the steering. I just feel more engaged, sort of part of it somehow. To anyone fortunate enough to drive the 488 it is though you don't feel the need to press on, more sit back and enjoy the whole experience. It is very special, so special that you would find yourself not taking it out for fear of hurting it ! The RS is so different it is almost begging to be driven hard and thanks you for it. Whatever you do it can do more, the car is just fantastic.

Not driven a 911 Turbo S. I seem to prefer an NA engine.

seems no contest, the 488 GTB wins easy on every thing !

the bumpy road killed the 911 for a car which should be a comfort car ! he is all over the place in that car :-(

the 488 has it licked in every dept, weight, noise, steering, feel, fun, looks, Badge, handling, ride, I could go on.

But it's also percieved as ostentatious by many and doesn't have seats in the back, so not really a like-for-like comparison.

Done about 2 hrs on road alone in 488, on my 4th 991 Turbo S, after about 30 plus track days in one and about 40k road miles. In my honest view, its close to call which is the better road car. Though I would agree with Sutts and his reasoning....As a daily driver it has to be the Turbo S, being able to just "lose it" in a car park, turn up on a track day press a few buttons and mix it with the fast stuff says it all...The Turbo S needs better tyres though....Pzeros not up to fast track stuff....

never really bought a ster car because I worry about how other people would view the better car lol
you can always order a silver 488 and not a bright red one, the colour is the key thing imo.

Is the steering on the 488 better than other ferraris ?
I never gelled with Ferrari steering always felt too sharp and made the cars feel nervous .

I'd just want to sit and stare at the Ferrari all day long. They are a thing of beauty. I think both manufacturers have got it spot on - Ferrari do the weekend thing very very well, and Porsche have the everyday-supercar nailed. Price wise the Turbo-S is stonking. I really would need both smile

A question for those who have owned both a Ferrari and a Porsche....after 10 years of age with similar mileage which make will still feel as tight to drive.

I've only had 1 Ferrari but many Porsches but I don't know of a single Ferrari that's been authentically used as a daily driver. What I mean by that is a 10k mile a year, commute, shopping, dog walking type of use.
There's nearly always at least one other vehicle in the household, usually several.
So the problem is that Ferraris just don't do regular miles and that means they suffer from issues related to lack of use much more than Porsche.
IME they suffer electrical, paint and corrosion issues but are very strong mechanically. Porsche's are usually solid but have they're share of issues

Agreed ferrari steering mostly is way too hyperactive to feel artifically 'exciting' imo.

Having also driven one on the Thruxton day , I was amazed it is so easy and yet so capable .......on the brakes as good as any Porsche and in race mode on track very stable ...
My daily driver is a Ferrrari and Porsche for occasional weekend use ..

My 355 was a daily including London commute every day - 20k plus miles in 2.5 years. My FF is now too, so far 10k km during the last 8-9 months, but no commuting. From next week will commute again, so mileageshould go up more quickly.

Never owned more than one car. If I add another car, the FF will still be the daily and the other car will be a weekend car. I am a bit worried about corrosion as I already saw some sign of it on the bootlid. Electrical gremlins seem to be a constant with Ferraris, most of them harmless though and can be reset by disconnecting the battery.

Plan is to drive this as my daily as long as it can be kept in warranty, so up to 12 years old - will be interesting to see how I get on and how high I can get the mileage.

Ah and I have a dog, so my car is also used as a dog carrier. Went to Media Markt this week, bought a printer, 4 computer screens and some other crap - all fit in the car (try that with a 911....).
