Can't warm to the 996RS, design is challenging at best. When you shut the door and turn around you need to feel wobble rather than yuck

Love the C2S, only one I seriously regret not having.
The 996RS was an extremely rewarding car to drive. The like of which we not see again. One of the all time great 911's in my view.

Was flicking through a few old copies of 911 & Porsche World today and had to chuckle. Several 964 RS's for £25-35k.
Considered buying one at time but went for 993 C2S instead. Sold an E30 M3 Sport just prior to that for £10k.
Still wish I had them but at the time was bored with them and wanted a change...

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.
Every time I closed the door and turned around, it did it for me...

Think you need to pick the shot carefully, another angle scratchchin

Not denying the drive, had a 996 mk1 GT3, but you need the full package IMO.

Yeah I wouldn't have picked that shot smile

But to me it's like your child who you know is not the ultimate looker but looks a bit like you, is unique, and a bit of a child genius. You kinda look past the surface and admire the full package smile

But yes, I accept not the ultimate looker from every angle.

I also feel it is a car that looks better in real life but difficult to capture on camera.

Really comes down to your preference of wide or narrow body IMHO

The styling cues are all fine but it would so much better with the wide 997 body (and body and lights, ah hell I just love the 997RS I guess)

I don't know what you are talking about. I think the 996 GT3 RS looks great (both in red and blue disguise). Beautiful simple lines and there is a certain lightness to the design. I don't own one, so I am not even biased ( a new for Pistonheads).

Form never bothered me as much as the driving experience but I've never found the 6RS an ugly car at all. Quite the contrary
All subjective. either way, I doubt that there are many ex 996RS owners on here who do not regret selling thier cars. The promise of something even more engaging never came to reality. To me the best water cooled 911 ever built

I don't think anyone accused the 996 GT3 (or RS) as being ugly at the side, but the black 997 GT3 above somewhat answers things. The 997 is a much, much better looking car so - in comparison - the 996 looks like a bar of soap.

Looks matter to me, so i'm afraid i'd be in the camp of a 996 doesn't get a look in from me. The only exception is the 996 GT2, which i still think is a handsome car.

It's great we are all different. I see a 997.1.2 GT3 and I think nice car. I see a 996 GT3 and I go wobbly at the knees. Go figure.

For me it also about the driving experience that is promised when you look at the car...for which the 996 is (in my experience) more rewarding.

The GT3 just grounded too much on the local lanes.. GT4 hasn't yet... Probably should of tried changing the geo first..!

I don't comment much on here but, somehow, can't resist this one!

I had the 996 RS from new and loved it but it wasn't what I would have called a well set up car. It was on the edge, admittedly and great fun to drive, but was always ready to bite you. I've raced cars for years, won many championships in top single seater series, and, from my experience, out of the box, this was not the best handling car I'd ever driven. Loved it to bits, but recognised that it could have easily been improved upon. Have had the RS's since then and, surprisingly for me, I enjoy the current one more than the others that came before... (and I still don't understand why with the PDK box!)
