Well chaps, spent some time on the Porsche stand at Frankfurt, my opinions on the new car

Lets start with positives

Externally a huge improvement, front, sides and back, the front with a straight shape at the front makes the car look wider, I know its wider but this makes it look even wider (More aggressive). The standard front lights have a lot of plastic area around them, too much in my opinion. Sides seems as though there is more metal work, and smaller glass area, again making it look sportier, I mentioned in a post before the back door is slightly longer.

The back, sensational, massive improvement, lights, shape of back door all superb, spoilt by the rear wiper arm, as per the last model, there to store dirt etc.

Its from the rear that you can see the car is lower than before,

Interior for me was something that I hope will grow on me, I really like the current model with all the switches, dials etc, they are mostly all gone in the new model, some will probably prefer that, we will see.

Not sure if the interior was 100% finished as there was a lot of plastics showing, even though I was in the Turbo, mainly around the gearbox console and below, my current Cayenne has leather handles, lower leather panel stitched, new car was plastic in the same places.

Did speak to a guy at the stand who was very helpful, he did say more is to come over the coming months.

All in all, this looks less like a SUV than ever, not sure if that is a good thing,

I've been told a diesel is arriving although it seems that the petrol engined models have been selling well since launch a couple of weeks ago.
Does anyone have any idea on when they think the Hybrid might be landing?

The petrol S with 440hp looks a good buy and is slightly quicker on paper than my current diesel S.
Not sure if i should go petrol S or Hybrid this time. Don't know if I should be looking at another diesel S again?

Any thoughts?

I think the styling is blah and cancelled my order. Sloping rood at the rear makes it less functional for my Great Dane than my old boxy 2008 Cayenne S.
I decided to keep the old Cayenne S and ordered a Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo (the station wagon) as a DD

As you say - the petrol S is quicker on paper, but it'll probably feel slower in daily use. In fact it definitely will.

It'll drink fuel alot quicker that's for sure...!

I find that hard to understand. The lump already exists in that platform so engineering wise it's already sorted.

Unless it'd be so damn quick they're worried about it taking even more sales off the Turbo, the consequences of which means even more diesel engines Porsches sat on forecourts in 3 or 4 years time when, the way things are going, you are likely to be arrested for owning one.

A good place to start searching is have a look at the Panamera options for engines, can't see any diesels on there at the moment

Someone one the Panamera thread has posted that the Diesel S has been discontinued....there are loads up for sale at OPC's. I read in a magazine article that there may not be a Diesel Cayenne

It may be they are hoping to push the Turbo versions. The setup will be there with the platform, but it could over shadow the ‘performance model’

The future for big power diesels could be questionable...

I had my local OPC make some serious enquiries for me as I was tempted with the SQ7.

I'm trying to justify a turbo at the moment. 99k plus 7k options so not reducukous. I'll probably end up with a hybrid but I'm enjoying the thought of a turbo at the moment. Come on man maths!

I'm getting a new Cayenne hybrid next year but only on the condition it still qualifies for the business user tax perks as on the current model If it doesn't i might consider the Turbo.
Its looking increasingly likely that no diesels will be offered in the new model. If Porsche's new pricing structure follows the lead from the new Panamera, then the new hybrid should be significantly cheaper than the existing model and a bargain imo.

2018 allocation of cars is nearly sold out apparently across Porsche GB network of the models up for sale at the moment....at current run rate expected to be fully sold early next month.

I ordered the vanilla model last month and was told to expect delivery between June and Sept next year.

So does that mean that if I want a Hybrid next year i can't have one if I hang on too long?

Don't know whether that includes the Hybrid or not to be honest. I was talking to my OPC's Business Manager this morning and just asked about the new Cayenne...how it was going etc, I am not in the market as we bought one in March. He said it's been selling well and had been told the above by Porsche GB. Given first production is not until April we're only talking about 6 to 8 months of production.

Don't think they are taking deposits on the Hybrid yet, only the three cars on the site right now (Cayenne, Cayenne S, Turbo). Once its officially announced i'd get in their sharpish.

Thought this would be the best place to get some advice on the new Cayenne. I've got a deposit down with April delivery estimate (at least that's what it says on the paperwork).

Slowly being forced up the practicality ladder from coupes to four door "coupes" and now finally to SUV (can't bring myself to go the estate route). It was really a backup with the hope a "cheap" lease (on any suitable alternative) would turn up, but nothings catching my eye so looking like I should start considering spec/etc (with Dec lost to hols, Jan will be here pretty quick).

I presume no one managed to get a discount on either the Cayenne or S?

Also in terms of spec I'm trying to avoid ticking too many boxes:

Standard White (Couldn't see much difference between this and Metallic White, but may switch)
21" Alloys
Surround View (hopefully prevent Mrs kerbing alloys)
Exterior High Gloss Black (for the price I think its worth it with a white car)

Current car is a BMW 6 GC, which was a pre-reg so heavily loaded. But only do 4k/year and thinking if I hold myself back with options I might get out of this car without too heavy a loss given I'll get an early car. Also whilst soft close doors etc are nice, the only option I'll truly miss is HUD which Porsche don't offer :/

Panoramic Roof has been suggested by salesman, but I never open the one in my current car and that has a lot less glass then the Cayenne.

Salesman suggested OEM was best route if I want 21" alloys. Especially as that means you get the body coloured wheel arches as well (which I'd do separately otherwise). Considered 20" instead for easier ride and hopefully less risk of pothole related damage, but once I get the arches colour coded and the alloys coated the gap in price closes.

Am I missing anything that I "should" spec?
