My Porsche history goes something like this.

99/00 Boxster 2.5 Bought 39k sold 35k
00/01 Boxster S Bought 47k Sold 41k
01/02 Boxster S Bought 47k Sold 46k
02/03 996 C4S Bought 66k sold 64k
03/04 996 GT3 Mk2 Bought 79k Sold 75k
04 GT3RS Bought 86k who knows....

The biggest loss was the first Boxster S and I just part ex this car. For the later cars I planned ahead and always gave the car to the OPC on a sale or return basis, so as a regular customer they charged me a fixed rate for selling the cars.

So far 17k in depreciation in 6 years, which is well worth it. The other thing to remember also is that only one of these cars ever had a service, and only the GT3's ever needed any consumables. No finance involved, but I guess I could of invested the money in them. Insurace and fuel, so lets say it 30k for 6 years of fun. Sounds good to me.....

And sounds a little too good to be true to me. Are you seriously expecting us to believe you only lost between 2-4 k on the list above. How long did you keep them for, the whole week?
And the OPC that only charges you 2K per transaction....please post their details for the benefit of all of us. I've been quoted far far more than that for SOR from the local OPC's, and I am a regular customer. Also many have stopped offering this service.

I agree theres a time to buy and a time to wait a little to purchase, but only £ 17k !!!

Read it an weep:

964 C2 12 months £35,000-£24,000 = £ 13,000
993 C2 12 months £44,000 - £31,000 = £ 13,000
996 C4 12 months £ 66,000 - £ 54,000 = £ 12,000
996 GT3 10 months £ 80,000 - £ 68,000 = £ 12,000
Audi RS6 9 months £ 62,000 - £ 58,000 = £4,000
996 TT 12 months £ 90,000 - £ 81,000 = £ 19,000
Ferrari 360 8 months £ 103,000 - £ 87,000 = £ 16,000

Total= £ 89,000

This doesn't include the early 205 GTI's, Corrado's and 4 x 4's. Just purely the sports cars with average miles for the marque. No stupid mods or colours. All cars bought outright with no finance.

And it's going to get worse with the market the way it is and production of the marques stepped up.

Makes you think 'eh.

Makes me think you can't add up

Lets see 35-24 does not equal 13
nor does 90-81 equal 19

So instead of £89,000 you actually lost £77,000 but who is counting?

Your right, 8am this morning, misprinted 19 instead of 9, with the other mistake quite rightly unforgivable. Must learn to concentrate when counting my losses.

All of those figures are genuine....

The C4S was one of the first in the country on the second hand market and so was the GT3. None of them, had covered more than 6k miles.

And yes the 2k SOR return figure is acurate.

Look on the bright side you have lost a lot less money than you first thought. In fact thats such a saving you could pop out and buy a nice Caterham.

Ah depreciation, lovely stuff, the amber nectar of the pennyless oik

It allows the fiscaly challenged to drive decent cars a few years- (ok quite a few years) down the line after the walletly endowed have taken the big hits & when the deprecated price moves the decimal point one place to the left, then this Lizard buys - actually for quite a few cars- thats not far of being pretty much bang on

After 30 odd cars plus a few bikes ive got to be in the ballpark of about even on losses & gains I'd say.

Lizard,,On the basis that new cars have a sticker price in the showroom.......you don't actually have to wait until your cars have descended the depreciation curve to be awarded a "police aware" sticker before purchasing.

Ah well. It's been fun.

Just sold a lovely C4S. Bought it from new...with extras that was £73k in Oct 03. Sold it in March 05 (18 months later) for £54k. That equates to a loss of £19k in 18 months.

You just don't think of it as over £1k a month on depreciation.

Thank god I stepped off of the depreciation curve. Just bought a 2 yr old GT2 for 65% of the new price....hoping that this'll hold a little bit steadier.
