The noise you refer to is the ABS system equalising the pressure, but should only happen when you first turn on the ignition, not during a drive.

Clutch should be light. My clutch became very heavy just before it failed and after I got a new one difference was night and day.

You also need to have the red fob for the alarm system. Costs hundrerds from an OPC.

Personally before you agree to anything get a PPI done by a good indie. Remember that a clutch replacement is the best part of £1000

Thanks everyone for the very helpful comments – what a community !

Rubystone: I also noticed that car, it is one on my list, it's advertised on 911 @ Porsche mag but rather unhelpfully, they made a cock up in the advert which omitted the price. I had a nice long chat with the owner who emailed me some pics. It's his third car and he has only done around 4,000 km in the past year. He has it up for £21,995. In relation to service history he said it was serviced by AMD (whom I have not come across). Also, it was serviced according to miles as opposed to yearly intervals, which means it hasn’t had a service for a while.

Kamal: the car has a dark red leather, and although everything is covered in it, inc dashtop, carpets, gear lever & gaitor, the stalks are balck (and so is the steering wheel)!

Mr DVD: thanks, I bought this fortnight's issue to Top Marques and this one also jumped out at me. I have the number with me and will give him a call today.

Off to Italy for the long w/e so viewings will be done next weekend !
Will keep you all updated !

Mine was "Flamenco" leather (which is relatively dark BUT it had a matching steering and stalks) so its not my old one...

On the 993s clutch problems can be caused by 3 things-wear, seized "needle bearings" (the clutch slides up and down on these) and faulty master or slave cylinder. The clutch on a 993 should be of medium weight but with a springy return action. It should be very progressive and really be "felt" as it engages.

The best thing about a LHD 993 is its driving position. You dont sit askew as you do in a RHD.

AMD - Jeff Everitt??? - I wasn't aware that they serviced cars as well (they specalise in tuning IIRC).
