Picking up my new car soon and the Dealer is advising I get the car coated with GTechniq product.
I dont really think I should pay another £800 to have the paint protected when the OE paintwork should be good enough. is this just a new "fad"? After all, we never used to do that when we bought new cars say 5-6 years ago.

I've got it both of my Porsches and once considered a Gtechniq or similar ceramic coating a luxury but now I've come to the opinion it's a necessity, highly recommended.
Here's my new Macan Turbo Performance Pack just before I took delivery last week. This colour is Volcano Grey. It's worth noting that my local OPC does offer a coating a little cheaper than the local authorised dealer of Gtechniq but I opted to go for what I'm happy with. If the OPC offers you it for £800 which is what I paid to Gtechniq dealer, expect to have the full ceramic serum with a further protective top coat, all your wheels and callipers done and the interior fully protected. Judge for yourself but as said by previous member, it's better to get a brand new car done before anyone starts messing about with the paint. Finally, don't try to apply the serum yourself or it will be tears before bedtime and a respray looming.
And one of the baby:
Cheers,
Paul

My 981 has a Gtechniq sticker on the windscreen and I find it cleans very easily. I am particularly impressed with the windscreen which always looks clean and beads nicely. So I am assuming it is coated with something. My windscreen wash has started to ping about its level so the question is what do I pout in there?
Just another way to make a profit.

But protect from stone chips it will not, light surface scratches and swirls only.
I guess nothing protects from stone chips? Well maybe a full "bra", but who wants that?PPF is said to protect from chips, but what happens when the PPF itself gets damaged? You have to replace the PPF at some cost?
I know there are self-healing PPF products, but even these are going to suffer from a big sharp stone hitting surely?

Use the genuine Porsche windscreen wash - no really!I have to use it due to extended warranty BUT in the 27 months and 26,000 miles I've driven my 981 as my daily, I have only had to top up the screen wash once! The previous owner gave me his bottle of screen wash with one a small amount used and I've used another small amount. Never freezes (how?). Cleans perfectly.

AG Aquawax has been a revelation to me since I started using it a few years ago. As an "after every wash" finish it works superbly.

I got some Auto Glym washer fluid from Halfrauds. £2.99. You mix it up. Seems to work well. I considered the Porsche stuff but heard you need to faff about adding alcohol to stop it freezing and I don’t think my tank had Porsche stuff in it before and read somewhere that mixing Porsche stuff with other fluids makes a gloopy sludge. Prob a load of codswallop. Happy with the Auto glym stuff though.I have to use it due to extended warranty BUT in the 27 months and 26,000 miles I've driven my 981 as my daily, I have only had to top up the screen wash once! Hundreds of pounds seems a lot of money to make water bead on a car bonnet if it doesn’t stop chips . Wax does makes it bead too? I just use wax really.
I’ve given up worrying about stone chips. You get so many on Porsche’s they’d put you in an early grave if you stressed about them. I just touch them in with the touch up. If anyone moans when/if I sell I’ll have to cross that bridge ha. Understand different if you’re on PCP and they hammer you for that on hand back.

I've had Gtechniq applied on 2 Porsches, my wife's Golf R and my daughters Fiat 500. Its just so easy to keep clean. I did my old Evo and its easier than you think, but I've been a keen detailer for years.
Our new Cayenne was done with Gtechniq by the OPC. If my experience is anything to go by don't go down that route. The body is ok, they only did the passenger and drivers side windows and the wheels weren't touched at all. Waste of money for that.
Regards
Fred

I had the full Gtechniq professional (CS Black + Exo) applied to my new 981 Spyder. It was expensive - c£900. Made washing the car very easy & when I sold it after a year it looked as good as the day I collected it from the showroom.
Have recently bought a new Cayenne Platinum Edition & will probably have a go at applying Gtechniq myself as the cost for a large SUV will be well over a £1000. You can't buy the 'dealer applied' product but can buy CS light + Exo. Also when I bought the Cayenne the OPC tried to sell me some 'add on' insurances for wheels, gap etc. Usually i say no thanks but one product seemed a great buy. It was a Porsche approved scratch/chip repair company - nothing like chips away. These guys run vans with state of the art refrigeration that keeps the porsche paint at the correct temp. £400 covers three year protection with up to eight call outs a year for scratch or chip repair that fits within I think a 30cm x 30cm dia.

I had 3 cars Gtechniq's earlier this year.
One car has suffered from water marks
When I wash the car, the water doesn't bead up and when I dry it with a Microwipe, the bodywork has sort of leopard spots that after 2/3 minutes in the warm, vanish
Spoke to Gtechniq, who say the water beads up on the panel, dust etc falls onto the water, the water evaporates and you get the watermark.
their solution being until they produce a water mark remover.
go to Wilko, buy some white clear vinegar, wipe off the marks and wash with a ph neutral shampoo.
As I live down in south west Cornwall, sea gulls are a nuisance to say the least.
I had a weeks holiday and was unable to check my cars everyday and came back to a seagull mark,
So car back to the detailers, mopped and the mark went, 2 days later it re appeared, so off to the bodyshop, flatted the mark with 6000 wet and dry paper, then machine polish with 3 compounds and the mark gone and not to return.
saturday morning, checked the stock again, bird st mark, went to wash it off as as I moved the sheepskin mutt over the mark, the water dripping off the mutt washed the st away, so it must of been no more than 5/ 10 minutes old?
washed the panel, rinsed and dried and the paint work stained,
Hand polish the mark with Farecla G3, Scholl S20 Black and it vanished.
the next day back again.
So today I ring Gtechniq, ask what I can do to stop it happening again.
Their advise take it back to the detailer every time for mopping and reapplication of the Gtechniq,
But surely as a Crystal ceramic coat the Gtechniq should protect the paint work?
No it will protect the paintwork but not the ceramic coat,
the skies in west cornwall, by the coast are covered in seagulls, I could spend my days just taking cars back and fro to my detailers.
how come as I ve lived here for 20 years and used Zymol Caranuba waxes for 20 years and have have very rarely had the problem before?
so £850 to have a car Gtechniq'd and it won't even protect you from 10 minutes worth a seagull Pooh
gtechniq had no interest at all in taking my name number, suggesting alternative treatments, or speaking to their approved detailer.
Premium prices, 3 world service!!

I think unfortunately you've been extremely unlucky, I was an ex Zymol accredited detailer and have been a Gtechniq accredited for a good number of years in the Devon area, so fairly similar issues with seagull mess and Gtechniq is by far a much better product. I've personally had far more Zymol waxed cars that I've had to wet sand areas than any Gtechniq treated cars. One car has suffered from water marks

Gtechniq offers far greater protection against wash marring, chemical resistance, road traffic film and bird droppings than any wax. You may think it's a biased opinion, but in all honesty waxing a car is much easy, quicker and to be honest more profitable. But the only time I wax a car now is for concours events or if a customer requests it (which is exceptionally rare).
It's not bullet proof and I personally I never try to oversell it and always try to work out what would work best for that particular customer.
Out of interest what Gtechniq coatings have you had applied to your Porsches and who was it carried out by?
Feel free to pm me or call on 07862 236939 and I'll happly to try and help or offer any advice I can.

Hi,
I've got it both of my Porsches and once considered a Gtechniq or similar ceramic coating a luxury but now I've come to the opinion it's a necessity, highly recommended.
Cheers,
Paul
