Hi Guys,

Anyone in the Malton area who can call in at Specialist Cars of Malton? and verify my my 996 GT3 Clubsport
is on the premises. Registration number BU53 LGK.

They have had it now for 3 months to fit new shocks.
Yes you heard it right, 3 months!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently they are still on order. Funny that because I checked with Porsche and they are in stock.

"Just get someone else to do it then" - you may ask.
Not possible - the old shocks have already been taken off.
"Put them back on then" - you may ask.
Not possible - they have been skipped.

All very worrying and I am appealing to anyone in the area to check my car is actually there for me and i'll refund any expenses and some.

Thanks
Pork Chop.

Sorry to hear that! Who in their right minds throws old parts before the new ones have arrived??? confused

I'm just over an hour away from there so if you don't get anyone closer I'm game for a drive...

Hopefully nothing sinister is going on and there's a simple (if bewildering) explanation!

Are they getting them cheaper from somewhere else?

I dunno about GT3 but Carrera shocks are Bilstein, and aftermarket supply comes and goes but Porsche will always supply them.

How on earth does 3 months elapse and you get to the point that you don't trust the dealer. Sure the reg no is right? Doesn't show on MOT search?

oh dear I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation (maybe)....this won't help calm your nerves but I had a similar scenario.......many moons ago.....car in for a top end rebuild 3 months later nothing done they hadn't started it I said don't bother I'm coming to collect it thanks.....got all the way to Silverstone (2hr drive) where they were based and guess what.....the shysters had it on a ramp half dismantled.....argument ensued.....decided to let them get on with it and return home not happy....a call a week later to see if it was done and dodgey Dave lets on that the engine is off site.....WTF.....where had my engine gone.....apparently to the engine builders shed at the bottom of his garden WHAT.....call from engine builder doesn't really help or allay misgivings....a week later collect car return home running in period return a week later to have tappets re-adjusted and leak down test and guess what apparently I'd spun it up again....really....where upon I drove the car straight to another shyster who manages to get his quote for the work 50% wrong that's right 50% what a pro......from that point on my cars only ever go to OPC never to a man in a shed I trust them not a jot....wait a minute.......there is a upside to the story.................................both shysters no longer exist....YAY good job too

Sorry to hear of your poor experience GT3-RS. However you are very wrong to judge all Porsche indi's by this experience. Some are genuinely brilliant and will put any OPC you can shake a stick at to shame. Hartech for instance, have a very solid reputation fixing inherent design flaws created by PAG.

Well at the risk of further inflaming the situation ...... They shouldn't have been skipped, they should have been sent to Bilstein UK who'd have refurbished them for the princely sum of £100 +VAT maximum per corner .....

I have been promised the car fixed and returned for next Tuesday!
We will see.
The problem is I have been promised lots during this long ordeal.
A bit like the boy who cried wolf.
You just don't believe anything.

We will see. Thanks for the offers and advice everybody, i'll keep you posted.

I was just thinking "who in their right mind would spend time taking off the shocks with none to put on. It sounds like a lot of work for very little gain" And then Slippy comes along and delivers the explanation.....

Sounds to me that you are paying new prices for refurb shocks.

I think Slippy is spot on. They have sent them back to Bilstein to have them refurbed at a awful lot less than you will be paying for a new set of dampers. I hope I am wrong but it makes total sense

Ah yes, Bilstein are known for being a little, ahem, slow at refurbs, they seem to do them as and when.

However the shocks come back like new.......

I thought Bilstein won't refurbish Porsche OEM shocks, only their after market ones...

I think you guys are right. I was promised new shocks and I think I'm getting refurbed. It would explain however why the car has been on a ramp for so long and why I was told the old shocks had been binned.
To be honest I just want the car back and I'll get it sorted by someone I can trust.

If you just fire 'em in the post/with a carrier and hope, the wait can and will be painfully long. Speak to David Masters and they can (and do) turn them around in a week. smile (though I suspect some of the delays may be caused by parts shortages and other scheduled work)
