I'll post up my thoughts on the collection and the final itinerary when we get back.
I picked up my 997 Turbo from the factory - many moons ago now. Absolutely fantastic experience and well worth the additional expense.
The factory tour, the experience centre, the museum and assuming its not changed, the customer presentation area followed by lunch in the Porsche restaurant all made for a great start to the ownership experience. Our return trip home was great, touring through France stopping over in the champagne region.
When I bought the 991 I enquired, but the sales guy did say that they didn't real push it as it involved lots of additional paperwork & hassle!
My car was a late October delivery and could have resulted in the car being forced to be supplied on winter tyres, so was delivered to my local OPC
The handover was quite uneventful- even an anticlimax.
If you do get the opportunity to do a factory collect - go for it!

Sorry to divert topic but how did that take 11 hours,it's only318kms.
Maps says 3.75 hours.......
I've driven from further south in Tuscany to Calais in not much more time than that.
my bad i added up the total time including We were stuck in a tunnel at night for like 2 hours then taking breaks and stopping for dinner etc. on google maps says milan to nice is 6.45hours. my memory is very vague as its like 8 years ago now since my friend took us on a europe road trip after graduating from uni.Maps says 3.75 hours.......

I have tried to PM you the screen shot I have of the prices of collection (the only way I think I can get it to you - unless someone on here can instruct me on how to upload pictures from my Mac onto Pistonheads, AArrgh!!) but to receive it you need to tick the box on your profile that allows PM-ing

It’s finally happening guys!!
So i’vebeen told the car gets finished building on 6th April and i’ve request 16th April to collect.
Those who had experiance with factory collection can you remeber if they gave you the requested date and how far between Finish build day and requested collection date.
OPC still not told me how much it cost for this as its.m not on the website anymore.

Why does it cost extra to collect from factory ,saving Porsche the cost of delivering the car 100s of miles to the UK ?
Factory tour ,a meal in the restaurant and visiting the museum isn't costly .....
It actually used to be free when I did it is 1998, basically in lieu of delivery charge I think.Factory tour ,a meal in the restaurant and visiting the museum isn't costly .....
I remember being sent a comprehensive package of business flight ticket, a bunch of Deutsche Marks for taxis from airport to hotel, and hotel to Factory, overnight room in nice hotel with a meal and drink voucher, a set of UK number plates, and a business ticket for Eurotunnel.
I do remember asking about any run in procedure - 996C2, and was just told first 500m keep below 6k revs, then 'pedal to the metal'.
Maybe they just charge now because they can, or the 'inconvenience' to them for a car handover etc
